We have a fantastic opportunity for an Electrical Maintenance Engineer to work for a leading research organisation, based South of Cambridge City. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will provide a comprehensive electrical operations and maintenance service across a busy campus environment, ensuring the safe and reliable operation of critical electrical infrastructure. Reporting to the Electrical Engineering Manager, you will support the operation, maintenance and improvement of electrical systems, including power distribution networks, emergency standby supplies, lighting systems and fire alarms. You will also undertake fault finding, repairs, planned preventative maintenance and minor installation works. You will be a qualified electrical engineer with strong technical knowledge, excellent fault-finding skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Key Responsibilities: • Support the Electrical Engineering Manager in delivering electrical operations and maintenance activities., • Maintain and operate electrical distribution systems, power supplies and emergency standby systems., • Carry out planned and reactive maintenance, fault diagnosis and repairs., • Complete minor electrical installations associated with equipment and building upgrades., • Monitor and respond to alarm systems., • Ensure the effective operation of normal, emergency and backup power supplies and fire alarm systems., • Assist with investigations into electrical faults and defects and provide technical reports where required., • Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation., • Liaise with specialist contractors carrying out servicing and maintenance works., • Ensure compliance with statutory regulations, including electrical testing and inspection requirements., • Participate in emergency callouts and, where required, an on-call rota. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate: Essential Qualifications: • BTEC, City & Guilds or equivalent qualification in an electrical discipline, • Recognised electrical apprenticeship or accredited Armed Forces training, • IET/IEE 18th Edition Wiring Regulations, • City & Guilds 2391 or 2394/2395 Testing and Inspection Essential Experience, Skills & Attributes: • Operation and maintenance of electrical distribution systems and M&E services, • Electrical fault finding, diagnosis and remedial repairs, • Power and lighting systems, including external lighting, • Main LV switchgear and installations, • Maintenance of motors, control gear, fire alarm and security systems, • Experience working on a multi-building or campus-style site, • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail, • Ability to manage workloads effectively and prioritise tasks, • Competent with Microsoft Office applications, • Ability to safely use hand and power tools, • Self-motivated, adaptable and proactive, • Flexible approach to working hours when operational needs require To Apply: Please send a covering letter together with a copy of your CV in MS Word Ann Pettengell is acting as an Employment Agency for this vacancy.
