An established and fast-growing civil engineering and groundworks contractor is looking to appoint an experienced Buyer to join their commercial and procurement team in Essex. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated procurement professional with at least 2 years’ buying experience to play a key role in supporting major construction and infrastructure projects across London and the South East. The business delivers complex groundworks, RC frame, infrastructure and civil engineering schemes, working on high-profile developments with a strong reputation for quality, safety and delivery excellence. The Role Reporting into the Procurement Manager / Commercial Team, the Buyer will be responsible for sourcing materials, negotiating with suppliers, managing purchase orders and ensuring projects are supplied efficiently and cost-effectively. Key responsibilities include: • Procuring construction materials, plant and subcontract services, • Building and maintaining strong supplier relationships, • Negotiating prices, lead times and supply agreements, • Monitoring market trends and supplier performance, • Raising and managing purchase orders, • Ensuring materials are delivered on time and within budget, • Working closely with site teams, commercial teams and suppliers, • Supporting cost-saving initiatives across projects, • Maintaining accurate procurement records and documentation Requirements • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a Buyer / Procurement role, • Experience within construction, civil engineering or groundworks preferred, • Strong negotiation and communication skills, • Commercially aware with excellent attention to detail, • Ability to manage multiple suppliers and deadlines, • Proficient with Microsoft Office and procurement systems, • Full UK driving licence preferred What’s on Offer • Competitive salary package, • Career progression within a growing contractor, • Supportive and professional working environment, • Exposure to large-scale and prestigious projects, • Long-term opportunity with a stable pipeline of work
