About the Role Were looking for a Mechanical Systems Architect that will be the system owner and technical authority responsible for how mechanical systems are designed, integrated, and ultimately built across PMEP projects. This role operates within a design-build environment, leading mechanical decision-making from early concept through fabrication, installation, and turnover. Unlike traditional engineering roles, this position emphasizes ownership, constructability, and real-world performanceensuring HVAC, plumbing, and related systems are optimized for manufacturing, coordination, and field execution. The Mechanical Systems Architect works across disciplines to align design intent with delivery, acting as the go-to technical leader for complex mechanical challenges. Core Responsibilities • Systems Ownership and Technical Leadership, • Own mechanical systems from concept through fabrication and field installation., • Serve as the technical authority for HVAC, plumbing, and related system decisions across projects., • Set direction for system strategy, ensuring alignment with project goals and delivery approach., • Provide independent engineering judgment on system performance, constructability, and compliance., • Design Integration and Execution, • Lead the development of mechanical system solutions across HVAC, piping, plumbing, and controls., • Translate conceptual designs into coordinated, buildable system layouts., • Ensure alignment between mechanical systems and structural, architectural, and construction workflows., • Review designs, drawings, and specifications for accuracy, completeness, and constructability., • Constructability and Delivery Alignment, • Ensure systems are optimized for prefabrication, logistics, and installation., • Partner with field leadership and fabrication teams to validate designs in real-world conditions., • Identify and resolve constructability challenges before they impact schedule or cost., • Embed sequencing, access, and installation requirements into system design., • Problem Solving and Value Optimization, • Evaluate complex mechanical systems and propose solutions to improve efficiency and performance., • Identify design conflicts, risks, and system constraints early and implement corrective actions., • Support value engineering and alternative system strategies while maintaining quality standards., • Resolve field and design issues through sound engineering analysis and collaboration., • Cross-Functional Collaboration, • Partner with preconstruction, project management, field leadership, and fabrication teams., • Support estimating and preconstruction efforts with system narratives, assumptions, and design input., • Coordinate with architects, engineers, and consultants to ensure system integration., • Serve as the technical liaison between leadership and project teams., • Standards, Quality, and Continuous Improvement, • Establish and uphold engineering standards, best practices, and documentation requirements., • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements., • Drive continuous improvement of PMEPs system design approaches, tools, and workflows., • Support development of repeatable, scalable system solutions across projects. Preferred Qualifications • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering., • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred., • Eight to ten or more years of progressive experience in mechanical engineering within construction, design-build, or MEP environments., • Advanced expertise in HVAC, piping, plumbing, and mechanical system design and analysis., • Demonstrated experience operating with autonomy and making independent technical decisions., • Strong understanding of mechanical codes, standards, and regulatory requirements., • Experience working in design-build or integrated project delivery environments., • Exceptional problem-solving, analytical, and technical review skills., • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences., • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
