Job Description Princeton Day School is seeking an experienced Director of Human Resources responsible for all aspects of the human resources function for 250+ employees including benefit administration, recruitment, payroll, regulatory compliance, mandatory reporting, personnel issues/investigations, mediation, problem solving, committee participation, departmental reorganizations, as well as administrative functions relating to HR. The Director of Human Resources supervises and mentors one (1) direct report, the Human Resources Assistant and Substitute Teacher Coordinator. The successful candidate will execute all work in Human Resources aligned with the school values of Humanity, Creativity, Intellect, Joy, and Stewardship and in alignment with our mission to cultivate intellectual vitality and strength of character within a community of compassion, shared responsibility, and play. This is a full-time 12-month exempt position working in the office Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 4:00pm reporting to the Assistant Head of School for Finance & Operations. For this position, the ideal candidate is expected to: EMPLOYEE LIFE CYCLE • Manage recruitment lifecycle, including placement of opportunities in appropriate job boards using iSolved Applicant Tracking platform; management of the search process and maintenance of search documentation to ensure EEOC compliance, • Create offer letters and generate contracts with salary/benefits statements for all new employees, • Working with the Athletic Director, generate seasonal contracts for new and returning athletic coaches, • Manage all aspects of new employee onboarding, ensuring all new employment paperwork and background check requirements are satisfied prior to commencement of employment, • Work with the Associate Head of School to coordinate and participate in annual 3-day new employee orientation program, • Maintain/edit/update job descriptions for all employees, • Complete periodic job description audit and ensure appropriate classifications under the Fair Labor Standards Act, • Maintain secure and confidential personnel files, • Manage annual Praesidium online abuse prevention training program and ensure completion by all employees including seasonal coaches, Summer Programs and extended day staff, • Revise/update employee handbook and ensure acknowledgement by all employees annually, • Ensure compliance with federal and state statutes/laws such as ACA, FMLA, NJFLA, ADA, Anti-Discrimination/Harassment, Worker's Compensation, Title VII and ERISA BENEFIT ADMINISTRATION • Successfully manage and coordinate benefit programs in partnership with the School's Benefits Broker - Medical, Dental, Vision, HSA/FSA, 403(b) Plan, STD, LTD, Life/AD&D and COBRA – for employees, including all employee communication, problem solving and claims resolution, • Oversee HR Assistant's reconciliation and processing of invoices for all benefit programs on a monthly/quarterly basis, • With support from HR Assistant, administer Short Term Disability claims, explaining the program to employees and providing guidance for paperwork, • Ensure compliance of all plans with applicable laws and statutes (HIPPA, ERISA and IRS, • guidelines), • Maintain secure and confidential benefit related files and records, • Communicate plan changes/comparisons during Open Enrollment periods to assist employees in becoming educated consumers, • Manage annual open enrollment for Medical, Dental, Vision, HSA/FSA plans and Voluntary Life Insurance plans using iSolved HRIS platform, • Coordinate logistics and schedule periodic TIAA/NFP consultant employee education sessions, • Ensure Summary Plan Descriptions are in legal compliance, • Work with School audit firm on annual 403(b) audit, • Manage Worker's Compensation program EMPLOYEE RELATIONS • Coordinate the process and maintain files related to the annual performance appraisals for non-faculty employees, • Consult/counsel school administrators and employees regarding disciplinary problems, resolving personnel issues and providing mediation when necessary to help ensure positive outcomes, • Conduct internal investigations relating to complaints, when necessary, • Manage employee separation process for both voluntary and involuntary terminations, in, • partnership with School Leadership, • Provide training, when necessary, on various HR topics including interviewing skills, employee coaching and performance reviews, • Liaison with legal counsel, as needed, • Provide a resource for any/all employee questions/concerns PAYROLL • Responsible for the direction, supervision and auditing of the payroll function, • Responsible to process weekly and/or semi-monthly payrolls in the absence of the HR Assistant OTHER • Responsible for completing required (governmental) reports including EEO-1 and OSHA, • Direct and share administration with the HR Assistant of the Substitute Teacher Assignment, • Program (entails evening and weekend hours), • Serve on Employee Experience Working Group, Retirement Plan Oversight Committee, Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Workgroup and other committees at the invitation of the Assistant Head of School for Finance & Operations and/or the Head of School, • Maintain records/files on student accident/incident reports, • Responsible for overseeing annual school-wide shredding program, coordinated/implemented by the HR Assistant, • Manage Recruitment budget, • Other duties as assigned or required Qualifications and Personal Attributes: • Bachelor's degree required, • Minimum 10 years in a human resources leadership role required, • Certification (PHR/SHRM-CP) preferred, • Proficiency with Excel and Word required, • Proficiency with HRIS platforms (iSolved a plus) and Google Workspace, • Human Resources experience in an independent school environment preferred, • High professional and ethical standards for handling confidential information, • Superior oral and written communication skills, • Ability to build trusting relationships with emotional intelligence and empathy while fostering an inclusive workplace, • Superior customer service and interpersonal skills, • Organization/time management skills and close attention to detail, demonstrating accuracy and thoroughness, with ability to prioritize to meet competing deadlines and attain satisfactory results in a fast-paced school environment, • Comfortable working with/learning new technologies, • Self-starter who can work independently to problem-solve, • Engage in Professional Development to remain current on legal compliance/best practices, • Able to maintain calm and focus under pressure, • Willingness to be available at all times for emergencies, work long hours, weekends and on holidays when required, • Demonstrate professionalism in all aspects of the job Compensation Range: $150,000 -
