American Traveler is seeking a travel nurse RN ICU - Intensive Care Unit for a travel nursing job in Washington, District of Columbia. Job Description & Requirements • Specialty: ICU - Intensive Care Unit, • Discipline: RN, • Start Date: 05/18/2026, • Duration: 13 weeks, • 36 hours per week, • Shift: 12 hours, nights, • Employment Type: Travel Assignment Overview • Shift: Nights, 3x12hrs, • Hours: 36 hrs/wk, • Start Date: May 18, 2026, • Length: 13 weeks, • Work setting is a Transplant ICU (S44) in an academic teaching hospital, • Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 19:00–07:30, • Every other weekend (EOW) required, • No on-call responsibilities, • Floating required within units of equivalent or lower acuity, • Patient ratio of 1:2, • Key clinical focus areas include multi-system organ failure, neurological care (EVD, ICP monitoring, TBI, spinal cord injury), respiratory/thoracic care, renal failure, GI surgery, and transplant care, • Procedures and skills utilized include ventilator management, arterial line management, central line care, PICC line management, pulmonary artery/Swan-Ganz monitoring, continuous IV sedation, vasoactive and cardiac drip titration, IV insulin protocols, hypothermia protocol/Arctic Sun, and 12-lead EKG/ECGRequirements, • Active DC RN license required; a pending DC license may be accepted for a later start date but must be in hand prior to the start date, • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required, • Minimum 2 years of ICU specialty experience required, • Experience required across the following clinical areas: dysrhythmia interpretation and management, multi-system organ failure, IV insulin protocols, GI surgery, chronic/acute renal failure, CVA/acute stroke management, EVD, hypothermia protocol/Arctic Sun, ICP monitoring, post-neurosurgery management, spinal cord injury, TBI, respiratory/thoracic care, infection prevention/PPE, phlebotomy, and surgical wound/wound vac management, • Charge nurse experience preferred, • Teaching hospital experience preferred, • Must pass the Relias EKG Rhythm Interpretation Exam with at least 80% overall and 100% on lethal rhythms prior to clearance, • Two supervisor references from within the past 2 years required for consideration, • Driver's license required for considerationAdditional Information, • First-time travelers are welcome to apply, • Candidates who were previously employed with MedStar must have been separated for a minimum of one year before being eligible to return as a traveler, • Candidates living within 60 miles of the facility are considered local and may be eligible at a different pay rate, • No RTO is permitted during the first two weeks of the assignment; no more than 7 days of RTO per 13-week contract, and all RTO must be submitted upfront, • Facility-specific compliance modules must be completed within one week of signing the contract, • Labs and DS appointment must be completed within 48 hours of signing the contract, • Chemotherapy administration experience is preferred, • Post craniotomy, Neuro ICU, and Surgical ICU experience preferred With thousands of travel nursing and allied jobs nationwide, our attentive and approachable recruiters find positions that align perfectly with your career aspirations and personal requirements.
