Responsibilities include stepping in to assist providers as needed, taking vitals, manual blood pressure, rooming patients, and performing phlebotomy. Job DescriptionPosition Description: POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Clinical Services Manager, the Patient Specialist is responsible for providing patient care services and administrative support to the Epilepsy Clinic. The position entails maintaining liaison with other clinics and departments as well as other agencies. Same-day and some overnight travel is required. Spanish speaking skills are required. MAJOR JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: The Patient Specialist performs a wide range of duties including, but not limited to: Assist the Clinical Services Manager and clinic staff with the delivery and coordination of care for epilepsy clinic patients. Required to make frequent decisions concerning patient care. Attends outreach clinics and coordinates logistics with other clinic staff for clinic day activities.Provides patient education and instructions after each clinic visit and as needed. Provides documentation and collection of subjective patient data. Participates in patient care activities, including triage, patient assistance programs, and diagnostic testing scheduling.Completes clinic activities such as medication refills, medical records requests, and patient forms with other clinic staff. Participates in staff meetings, post-clinic reviews, and trainings. Enters data into the patient database.Assists with the coordination of travel arrangements for each clinic location. Process new patient applications. Gathers patient symptoms via triage protocol. Reports information to the physician, provides instructions, and follows up with patients.Answers phone and directs calls to the appropriate person.Processes medical records requests. Develops, implements, and ensures compliance with established standards of care, policies, and procedures. Participates in all EFCST events/activities. Performs all duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS:Certified or Registered Medical Assistant Two (2) years of previous experience in a clinic is preferred. The ability to read, write, and speak Spanish fluently is required. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook). Must be able to work independently, with the ability to communicate well individually, in small groups, and public settings.Must be a team player. Self-starter, professional, problem solver, energetic, motivated, creative, and caring. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT: Must be able to work effectively in routine and emergency situations. OTHER: Same day travel to other medical clinics or facilities is required. Travel dates are approximately 5 per month with an overnight day. The other work days are in office in San Antonio.
