The Thrift & Thrive Store Manager ensures the store operates as a mission‐aligned revenue generator and a highly visible community touchpoint for Family Services General Summary The Thrift & Thrive Store Manager leads daily store operations, business planning, donation documentation, volunteer support, and community engagement to strengthen both the store’s profitability and the agency’s public presence. The Store Manager ensures that every aspect of store operations reflects our organizational values—accountability, integrity, communication, resource stewardship, equity & inclusion, and team‐oriented collaboration. The Store Manager works closely with the Volunteer & Outreach Coordinator, who oversees volunteer recruitment and retention. This position provides on‐site training, guidance, and support to volunteers and ensures the store environment is welcoming, organized, and aligned with agency standards. Compensation · Salary: $17/hour; 20 hours per week · Benefits: tenure-based paid vacation and sick leave, paid holidays, retirement benefits Essential Tasks and Responsibilities: ● Operational Leadership, Business Planning & Revenue Generation o Oversee daily store operations to ensure consistent, reliable, and mission‐aligned functioning. o Maintain a clean, organized, and dignified shopping environment that reflects agency values. o Develop, implement, and monitor a business plan focused on revenue growth, sustainability, and community impact. o Set and adjust pricing guidelines based on quality, market trends, and revenue goals. o Manage merchandise flow, product mix, and display strategies to maximize sales. o Ensure accurate and timely preparation of deposits and cash‐handling documentation. o Implement loss‐prevention practices to safeguard merchandise, donations, and cash. o Ensure all donated materials are logged and reported so the agency can issue tax letters and maintain audit‐ready documentation. o Troubleshoot and maintain the store’s POS system and ensure accurate transaction processing. o Use sales and inventory data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement. ● Volunteer Support & On‐Site Training o Partner with the Volunteer & Outreach Coordinator to ensure adequate volunteer coverage. o Provide on‐site training to volunteers on store procedures, customer service expectations, and trauma‐responsive practices. o Serve as the on‐site resource person for volunteers during store hours, offering guidance, problem‐solving, and support. o Create the monthly volunteer schedule to ensure the store remains appropriately staffed and open during intended hours o Track and report volunteer hours accurately and in alignment with agency processes. o Foster a positive, inclusive, team‐oriented environment that supports volunteer engagement and retention. ● Customer Experience, Community Engagement & Agency Awareness o Greet and engage customers to create a welcoming, respectful, and mission‐centered shopping experience. o Clearly communicate the store’s purpose as both a revenue generator and a community resource supporting Family Services’ programs. o Participate in local events, community activities, and outreach efforts to strengthen visibility and partnerships. o Build relationships with local businesses, schools, and community groups to increase donations, foot traffic, and awareness of the agency’s mission. ● Marketing, Promotion & Public Visibility o Provide timely information, photos, and updates to the Development & Communications team to support agency‐aligned social media content and promotional messaging. o Maintain the ability to post real‐time updates from the store (e.g., special finds, flash sales, donation highlights) in alignment with agency guidelines. o Respond to customer inquiries or comments on store‐related posts when appropriate, ensuring communication is timely and mission‐centered. o Collaborate with the Communications team to ensure all messaging reflects agency branding, values, and strategic goals. o Implement in‐store promotional strategies that increase foot traffic, elevate agency visibility, and strengthen the store’s role as a community ambassador. ● Reporting & Continuous Improvement o Run regular reports on sales, inventory, and store performance to guide decision‐making. o Use data to assess progress toward revenue goals and identify opportunities for improvement. o Maintain organized digital and physical records related to store operations, deposits, donations, and volunteer activity. o Recommend operational adjustments that strengthen efficiency, customer experience, and revenue. ● Additional Duties o Support agency‐wide events, outreach efforts, and cross‐departmental initiatives. o Maintain active participation in agency meetings, strategic initiatives, and committees to strengthen mission alignment and cross-functional effectiveness o Uphold Family Services policies, values, and principles in all decision-making o Maintain positive public conduct and record consistent with Family Services’ image in the community. o Position also may include various duties as assigned that are consistent with the mission of the agency and/or program. Individual and Professional Qualifications ● Experience: o Previous retail or thrift store management experience preferred o Experience working with volunteers preferred o Strong organizational and multitasking abilities o Strong interpersonal communication skills o Ability to use social media for promotional purposes ● Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required ● Physical Ability: Requires the ability to lift and move donated items, reset and rearrange store displays, and safely transport donations up and down stairs as part of daily store operations. ● Language Proficiency: Proficiency in English required; Bilingual skills preferred ● Equipment Experience/ Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and general database use ● Other: Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and ability to drive Required Schedule and Work Location This part‐time hourly position requires 20 hours per week, worked fully in‐person and primarily during the store’s open hours to ensure on‐site leadership, operational continuity, and consistent open hours.[PV1] The role will also require some work outside of open hours—including occasional evenings or weekends—to reset store displays, complete cleaning and organizing tasks, support volunteer groups, or prepare and staff the store for special events.[PV2] This position is based at 1020 17th Avenue in Monroe, WI, with periodic in‐person meetings at other agency locations in Rock and Green Counties. Remote work is not available for this position Measures of Performance Success in this role will be evaluated by the reliable and effective operation of the store; steady progress toward revenue goals and execution of the store’s business plan; accuracy in cash‐handling, deposit preparation, and documentation of donated materials for tax and audit purposes; the quality of on‐site support and training provided to volunteers; delivery of a welcoming, mission‐centered customer experience; meaningful participation in community events that increase agency visibility and store traffic; clear communication and collaboration with agency leadership and the Volunteer & Outreach Coordinator; timely and accurate maintenance of operational records and reports; and consistent demonstration of agency values in all aspects of store management. Job Stress This position involves managing multiple operational tasks in a fast‐paced retail environment, balancing customer needs with volunteer support, donation flow, and revenue expectations. The role requires consistent in‐person presence, frequent physical activity, and the ability to adapt to shifting priorities, occasional off‐hours work, and periods of high customer or donation volume. Maintaining accuracy in documentation, cash‐handling, and store presentation while upholding agency values may create additional stress during peak times or special events. Reporting Relationship Reports directly to the Chief Resource Officer. Collaborates closely with the Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator and volunteers.
