Job Description Job Title: Quality Control Chemist Job Description The Quality Control Chemist performs analytical testing on raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products to ensure they meet established specifications and quality standards. This role supports the investigation and resolution of product and process issues, maintains accurate laboratory records, and contributes to continuous improvement in a whey protein manufacturing facility for human nutrition and dietary supplements. Responsibilities • Perform analytical procedures on raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products using appropriate laboratory methods and instrumentation., • Record all testing results promptly and accurately, including performing calculations and computations that lead to reliable data reporting., • Notify the Quality Manager and other relevant stakeholders in a timely manner when ingredients or products do not meet specifications., • Assist in investigating and resolving product problems, operational issues, and customer concerns related to product quality., • Respond to internal requests for technical product information and provide support on laboratory-related questions., • Monitor, order, and manage laboratory supplies, including chemicals, equipment, and equipment parts, to ensure continuous operation., • Follow plant and laboratory Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and safety guidelines to maintain a clean, safe, and compliant work area at all times., • Perform routine maintenance on laboratory equipment and troubleshoot equipment issues to minimize downtime and ensure accurate test results., • Ensure all laboratory chemical Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) or equivalent safety documentation are reviewed, maintained, and properly filed., • Manage the laboratory database for tracking daily analyses on finished products and ingredients, ensuring data integrity and traceability., • Create and develop reports from the laboratory data system as needed for quality monitoring, audits, and management review., • Maintain and organize all storage locations for hazardous materials and supplies in a safe, clearly identified, and compliant manner., • Read, understand, and correctly interpret documents such as laboratory results, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), GMP manuals, HACCP programs, and procedure manuals., • Monitor trends and issues related to all ingredients and finished products, and communicate these trends to the Quality Manager, Plant Manager, and other relevant personnel as appropriate., • Degree in a scientific discipline (such as Chemistry, Food Science, or a related field)., • 2 or more years of quality control laboratory experience, preferably in an environment using analytical instrumentation., • Hands-on experience with analytical chemistry techniques and instruments, including ICP, ICP-MS, HPLC, GC, and GC-MS for testing heavy metals, minerals, and other analytes., • Strong quality control and quality assurance testing experience within a regulated manufacturing or laboratory setting., • Ability to perform and document method validations to ensure reliability and robustness of analytical methods., • Experience working within food safety and quality schemes such as SQF, BRC, AIB, or GFSI frameworks., • Knowledge of CAPA processes and the ability to participate in root cause analysis and implementation of corrective and preventive actions., • Proficiency in reading and interpreting laboratory results, SOPs, GMP manuals, HACCP programs, and procedure manuals., • Strong data management skills, including entering, tracking, and extracting information from laboratory databases and generating reports., • Ability to follow GMP and safety guidelines consistently and maintain a clean, organized, and compliant laboratory environment., • Experience with ICP-MS specifically for analyzing heavy metals and minerals is highly preferred., • Method development experience in analytical chemistry is a plus., • Familiarity with gas chromatography and mass spectrometry (GC, GC-MS) for product and ingredient analysis., • Understanding of food, nutrition, or dietary supplement manufacturing processes, particularly whey protein or similar ingredients., • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to support investigations into product quality issues and customer concerns., • Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize workload, and meet testing deadlines in a fast-paced production environment., • Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in documentation, calculations, and reporting. This role is based in a whey protein manufacturing facility that produces ingredients for human nutrition and dietary supplements. The Quality Control Chemist works primarily in a laboratory environment located within or adjacent to the production plant and regularly interacts with production, quality, and plant operations teams. The position involves routine use of analytical instrumentation such as ICP, ICP-MS, HPLC, GC, and GC-MS, as well as standard laboratory equipment and computer-based laboratory data systems. The facility follows strict GMP, HACCP, and food safety guidelines, with a strong focus on cleanliness, organization, and safe handling of chemicals and hazardous materials. Work hours are primarily Monday through Friday, with a typical schedule that may be adjusted to a 2:00 pm to 10:00 pm shift if preferred by the candidate. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wautoma, WI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $27.00/hr.
