Job Description Position Summary The Sales Manager is an outgoing and friendly individual who has experience in the sales process and function of a hotel. The Sales Manager is responsible for attainment of assigned goals tied to the overall performance of the hotel and is looking to grow their career in an exciting new downtown property. The individual will be responsible for effectively soliciting and securing new accounts as well as maintaining customer relationships. The Sales Manager will work in conjunction with the Director of Sales to achieve the hotel’s revenue and market share goals. Essential Functions • Responsibilities include selling guest rooms, meeting space and other Canopy Boston Downtown services to customer groups, managing accounts, and conducting site inspections, solicits and generates business., • Prepare and present effective proposals, maintaining well organized documentation and reports, utilizes Canopy Boston Downtown systems and coordinates customer service requirements as appropriate., • Participate and may lead event meetings, sales, and other staff meetings., • Effectively attain assigned sales and revenue goals as well as solicitation call goals., • Develop, actively solicit, and map group business accounts per defined territory., • Assist Director of Sales in development and implementation of sales and marketing strategy and action plans by utilizing STR, key reports, and market trends., • Work with the Director of Sales and Director of Revenue Management on maximizing group profitability., • Approach all encounters with guests and employees in an attentive friendly courteous and service-oriented manner, • Maintain strong visibility in local community and industry organizations as applicable., • Assist in implementing and/or participating in special promotions relating to direct sales segments i.e., sales blitzes etc., • Participate in daily business review meeting, pre-convention meetings, training and other sales-related meetings as required., • Collaborate with various departments to ensure flawless execution and participate in solving problems with other departments. · To sell and detail catering events within the market segments outlined by DOS to achieve budgeted revenue goals. Maximize revenue sales in the given fiscal year and crossover revenue booking goals for future years., • Responsibilities may include detailing for catered events and conference services ., • Represent hotel at trade shows, industry events, and local events as specified by Hotel Marketing Plan. Set up exhibits involving bending, stopping, lifting, and reading overhead., • Prepare information for, meet with, and entertain clients as deemed appropriate by potential business from that account., • Solicit business from assigned market segments, to include outside solicitations, networking events, industry showcases and client events., • Develops and maintains Canopy by Hilton Boston | Downtown best practices to ensure customer account objectives are defined, and appropriate sales activities are implemented., • Maximize function revenue by booking the proper meeting space based on food and beverage/attendance ratio, • Maximize room rental and food and beverage revenue / Upsell the clients whenever possible in order to increase average checks, and encourage the use of in-house outlet (Rose Town Kitchen & Bar, • Ensure team members have current knowledge of hotel products, services, facilities, events, pricing and policies and knowledge of the local area and events, • Run and complete daily reports, analyze data and make decisions based on data, • Resolve guest issues and concerns to guest satisfaction, • Perform any other duties as requested by the General Manager or Director of Sales. % of Time Essential functions 25% Respond to sales inquiries from potential clients with under 25 guestrooms/attendees. 25% Partner with operations departments to ensure full participation in servicing accounts including resume and BEO distribution. Initiate new sales, prospects and qualifies leads and solicits potential clients. 10% Host and entertain clients and maintain client accounts. 10% Conduct property site visits and answer questions. 10% Determine rates, prepare proposals, negotiate contracts, service accounts and analyze lost business for the hotel. 10% Develop sales plans and strategies to meet or exceed established revenue and room night goals. Supportive Functions In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination supportive function, with the percentage of time performing each function to be solely determined by the Director of Sales and the General Manger based upon the particular requirements of the Hotel. Other Regular attendance in conformance with the standards, which may be established by the hotel from time to time, is essential to the successful performance of this position. Team Members with irregular attendance will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment. Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, Team Members may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the hotel. Upon employment, all Team Members are required to fully comply with the hotel rules and regulations for the safe and efficient operation of hotel facilities set forth by the Canopy Boston Downtown, Olshan Properties and Hilton hotels. Team Members who violate hotel rules and regulations will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment. Specific Job Knowledge, Skill, and Ability The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations, using some other combination of skills and abilities. • Possess the ability to dress in a professional manner., • Maintains pleasant and professional communication skills whether interacting with hotel clientele and team members., • Follows-up on any complaints or problems a guest may experience in a timely and professional fashion to ensure a quality guest experience., • and understand basic computer skills & possess considerable Internet knowledge., • Ability to react quickly/decisively to emergencies and requests., • Ability to concentrate in high-volume high-pressure area., • Ability to stand, walk and sit for extended periods of time., • Ability to perform duties in a closed and confined space and at times may be hot and noisy., • Ability to perform tasks requiring bending, stooping, kneeling and can lift 50 lbs., • Ability to communicate in English telephonically, over a handheld radio, and face-to-face clearly., • Possesses considerable mathematical skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) to maintain guest charges, handle adjustments, etc., • Possess considerable ability to listen effectively., • Knowledge of local tourist and trade attractions and local area., • Ability to read, write, and comprehend English., • Detail oriented work habits and ability to accomplish goals in a timely manner., • Ability to become OnQ certified., • Ability to work under time constraints and deadlines, must be productive in quantity and quality of work., • Ability to use finger/hand movements for extended periods of time. Finger and hand dexterity to manipulate switches, writing instruments, a computer keyboard, etc., • Protect employer’s privacy and data: keep passwords safe. Qualifications Education: • High School Diploma or equivalent required., • 2 or 4-year College Degree; degree in Business Administration or Hospitality Management preferred. Experience: • Two or more years or comparable experience in hospitality sales preferred., • One or more years’ experience in hotel management., • Salesforce experience preferred., • Hilton experience preferred., • Must have experience in writing and administrating sales contracts, BEO’s, resumes etc., • Boston or equivalent city centric hotel experience preferred., • Basic understanding or revenue management., • Delphi FDC / Salesforce experience preferred.
