Position Summary The General Manager – Concrete Molds is responsible for the overall commercial and operational performance of Columbia Machine’s Concrete Mold business unit. This role leads a diverse team spanning Sales and Engineering functions, with primary responsibility for driving revenue growth, developing sales strategy, coaching sales professionals, and expanding market share. This is a hands-on leadership position requiring a balance of commercial leadership, business acumen, technical aptitude, and operational understanding. The successful candidate will be equally comfortable working with customers, sales teams, and engineers, while maintaining accountability for business-unit growth, profitability, and customer satisfaction. The ideal candidate is a technically minded sales leader who has built a successful career selling engineered-to-order products, custom manufacturing solutions, tooling, molds, capital equipment, or other complex industrial products and is ready to take the next step into broader business leadership. This role offers the opportunity to expand beyond sales management into full business-unit ownership, including responsibility for sales, engineering, profitability, strategic planning, and organizational development. Key Responsibilities Commercial Leadership & Business Growth • Lead and develop the Concrete Mold Sales organization, including inside sales, outside sales, and technical sales personnel, • Develop and execute sales strategies to achieve revenue growth, market share expansion, and profitability targets, • Coach and mentor sales professionals to improve performance, pipeline development, forecasting accuracy, and customer engagement, • Maintain target margins through pricing strategy, market analysis, and strategic project evaluation, • Drive sales channel productivity and identify opportunities to expand the sales pipeline, • Create and deliver customized technical sales presentations and proposals, • Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers and strategic accounts, • Develop short- and long-range sales forecasts and actively monitor bookings, backlog, and invoicing performance Business Unit Leadership • Maintain accountability for business-unit performance, profitability, and achievement of key performance indicators, • Prepare and manage departmental budgets and financial forecasts, • Collaborate across Engineering, Manufacturing, Sales, Marketing, and Operations to ensure alignment and execution of business objectives, • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, productivity, and customer satisfaction, • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and operational excellence, • Guide Smithburg, Maryland repair facility as part of Concrete Molds P&L Engineering & Product Leadership • Direct the Concrete Mold Engineering team to effectively utilize resources and complete projects on time and within budget, • Support the development of new products, design enhancements, and cost-reduction initiatives, • Ensure effective communication between Engineering, Sales, and Manufacturing to improve efficiency and reduce costs, • Participate in product strategy, research and development, and long-term growth planning, • Collaborate with Sales and Marketing to identify industry trends, customer needs, and competitive opportunities People Leadership • Lead, develop, and coach employees across Sales and Engineering functions, • Conduct performance reviews, establish development plans, and build organizational capability, • Foster a high-performance culture focused on customer success, accountability, and continuous improvement, • Provide hands-on leadership to both experienced professionals and developing team members Who Thrives in This Role This role may be a strong fit for someone who is currently in a technical sales, sales management, regional sales, business development, or commercial leadership role and is ready for broader ownership of a business unit. Successful candidates may come from backgrounds such as: • Engineered-to-order manufacturing, • Custom tooling or mold manufacturing, • Industrial equipment or capital equipment sales, • Metal fabrication, machining, heat treat, foundry, or industrial production, • Technical B2B sales involving customized solutions, • Manufacturing businesses where engineering, production, and sales work closely together This role is especially well suited for a leader who: • Has a technical, engineering, manufacturing, or industrial background, • Has successfully moved into customer-facing sales or commercial leadership, • Enjoys coaching sales professionals and helping teams achieve results, • Wants to broaden their scope beyond sales into business-unit leadership, • Is comfortable balancing strategy with hands-on execution, • Can work directly with customers, sales representatives, engineers, and manufacturing teams, • Has the energy, curiosity, and business savvy to lead a small but diverse team Preferred Qualifications • 5+ years of leadership experience in industrial sales, engineering, manufacturing, business development, or business-unit leadership, • Demonstrated success in B2B sales within industrial, manufacturing, tooling, capital equipment, metalworking, heat treat, automation, or related industries, • Experience developing sales strategy, forecasting revenue, managing pipelines, and coaching sales professionals, • Experience with custom-engineered products, configurable systems, or customer-specific manufacturing solutions, • Strong business acumen including budgeting, forecasting, margin management, and P&L responsibility, • Engineering, manufacturing, metallurgy, heat treat, tooling, fabrication, machining, automation, or related industrial experience strongly preferred, • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business, Manufacturing, or related field preferred Key Attributes • Strong management and leadership skills, • Proven ability to lead diverse teams and drive accountability, • Strategic thinker capable of balancing long-term growth with day-to-day execution, • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, • Technical aptitude and ability to understand complex industrial products and processes, • Results-oriented with a strong sense of ownership, • Comfortable operating in a hands-on leadership role, • Willingness to engage directly in the details while also leading broader business strategy Travel • 20–30% Columbia Machine offers a full benefits package including medical, dental, vision, prescription drug, life insurance, flexible spending accounts, short and long-term disability, 401(k), incentive compensation, paid holidays, paid time off, and tuition reimbursement.
