Headquartered in Ann Arbor, Michigan, EGI is building a secure, domestic supply chain to support the growing demand for high-performance batteries in drone, eVTOL, and energy storage markets. Position Summary EGI Battery is seeking an experienced and hands-on Maintenance Manager to lead and support the maintenance, installation, integration, commissioning, and reliability of automated manufacturing equipment supporting advanced battery cell manufacturing. This role will also retain responsibility for facility systems and utilities that directly support manufacturing operations. This role is responsible for ensuring automated manufacturing equipment operates safely, reliably, and efficiently across prototype, pilot, and production operations. The Maintenance Manager will lead preventive and predictive maintenance programs, equipment troubleshooting and recovery, support new equipment installation and integration, controls and automation support, supplier coordination, and commissioning of manufacturing systems. This position requires a technically strong leader who can operate effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, capable of hands on troubleshooting of complex automated equipment, manage equipment installations and integrations, and build the maintenance systems required to support continued growth and production scale-up. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Automated Equipment Maintenance and Reliability • Lead maintenance and technical support activities for automated battery cell manufacturing equipment and supporting systems., • Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive Preventive Maintenance (PM) program., • Establish preventive, predictive, and condition-based maintenance strategies for critical automated equipment, controls, robotics, sensors, and motion systems., • Lead equipment breakdown response, advanced troubleshooting, repair, recovery, and escalation for automated manufacturing systems., • Develop maintenance procedures, troubleshooting guides, inspection standards, checklists, and work instructions for automated equipment., • Maintain accurate equipment maintenance and repair history., • Lead root cause analysis and permanent corrective actions for recurring mechanical, electrical, controls, and automation failures., • Coordinate planned and unplanned maintenance activities to minimize disruption to production and equipment launches. Facilities and Utilities Support • Maintain oversight of facility systems and infrastructure required to support automated manufacturing equipment and production operations., • Oversee critical facility systems and installation including: o Electrical distribution o HVAC systems o Compressed air o Dry air and desiccant systems o Chilled water and process cooling o Exhaust and ventilation systems o Cleanroom and dry room systems o Fire protection and life-safety systems o Plumbing and building systems • Ensure critical manufacturing utilities remain available and capable of supporting production requirements., • Experience with dry room and cleanroom environmental conditions and coordinate corrective actions when conditions fall outside required specifications., • Support facility expansion, renovation, and infrastructure projects required for equipment installation and manufacturing growth., • Coordinate facility shutdowns and planned maintenance activities. Automated Equipment Installation, Integration and Commissioning • Support for automated manufacturing equipment including material handling, cell assembly, electrolyte filling, formation, aging, degassing, inspection, testing, vision systems, robotics, and supporting automation., • Lead troubleshooting and technical coordination with internal engineering teams, controls resources, system integrators, and equipment suppliers., • Lead and support installation, mechanical and electrical integration, commissioning, qualification, debug, startup, and production handoff of new manufacturing equipment., • Review equipment utility, electrical, controls, network, safety, and interface requirements to ensure infrastructure is ready prior to installation and startup., • Participate in equipment design reviews, FAT/SAT activities, installation planning, controls integration, and production readiness reviews with Engineering, Manufacturing, and suppliers., • Support equipment modifications, automation upgrades, controls improvements, cycle-time improvements, and continuous improvement projects. Spare Parts and Maintenance Systems • Develop and manage a critical spare parts strategy for automated manufacturing equipment and supporting facility systems., • Establish minimum/maximum inventory levels for critical spare parts and consumables., • Coordinate with Supply Chain and suppliers to maintain appropriate spare parts availability., • Ensure work orders, PM activities, equipment history, spare parts usage, and maintenance costs are accurately tracked. Team Leadership • Build, develop, and lead the Maintenance organization as manufacturing operations scale., • Establish technician roles, responsibilities, schedules, technical training requirements, and performance expectations with emphasis on automated equipment troubleshooting and recovery. Contractors, Vendors, and Projects • Manage external maintenance contractors, equipment OEMs, system integrators, controls vendors, and technical service providers., • Develop scopes of work and obtain competitive quotations for equipment installation, integration, automation upgrades, facility, and maintenance projects., • Manage supplier and contractor schedules, installation quality, safety, cost, commissioning, and project completion. Required Qualifications • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Automation/Controls Engineering, or a related technical discipline; equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered., • Minimum 7–10 years of experience in the above area’s. With a minimum 3 years of leadership or supervisory experience, • Strong knowledge of automated industrial manufacturing equipment, PLC/HMI systems, robotics, sensors, vision systems, electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, servo/motion control, and industrial controls., • Experience developing and managing preventive and predictive maintenance programs for automated manufacturing equipment., • Experience managing equipment OEMs, system integrators, contractors, and technical service providers during installation, commissioning, and production support., • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing and startup environment., • Ability to respond to critical automated equipment and facility issues outside normal working hours when required. Compensation The base salary range for this position is $120,000-$160,000, with final compensation determined based on the candidate’s experience, qualifications, skills, and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for performance-based bonus and/or equity incentive plans in accordance with EGI Battery’s applicable programs.
