Job Description Title: Storage Engineer – OLVM / iSCSI (Contract-to-Hire) Location Options: Research Triangle Park, NC • Westlake, TX • Merrimack, NH Client: Fortune 100 Financial Services Company Work Model: Hybrid – onsite every other week (Mon–Fri) Type: Contract-to-hire Work Authorization: U.S. Citizen (required due to client requirements) About the Opportunity Our client, a Fortune 100 financial services company, is looking for a hands-on Storage Engineer (not a storage admin) to help design, build, and troubleshoot large-scale storage for a key OLVM-based virtualization platform. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving hard performance problems, understanding the full IO path, and automating repetitive work—not just provisioning LUNs or closing tickets. You’ll partner closely with Linux, virtualization, network, and database teams to ensure reliable, high-performing storage for critical applications (Oracle, Postgres, SQL Server, and others). What You’ll Do • Engineer storage for OLVM/KVM environments, • Design and support storage for Oracle Linux Virtualization Manager (OLVM) clusters., • Own iSCSI and multipath configurations from virtual guest to hypervisor to storage array., • Troubleshoot complex storage issues, • Perform deep end-to-end storage path troubleshooting (guest → hypervisor → network → array)., • Identify and fix bottlenecks in both iSCSI and Fibre Channel environments., • Use logs, metrics, and dashboards to get to true root cause, not just symptoms., • Support platform certification and standards, • Help validate and standardize storage for key database and application workloads., • Contribute to best practices, runbooks, and reference designs for the storage platform., • Lead and automate storage migrations, • Support data migration between storage arrays with minimal downtime and risk., • Build or enhance scripts and tools (e.g., Python, Bash, Ansible) to automate host-based data migration and validation., • Implement large scale storage and backup solutions, • Manage advanced, enterprise-level storage systems using Infinidat arrays for high-performance, scalable environments., • Develop and manage comprehensive backup and recovery strategies with Commvault, ensuring data protection, disaster recovery, and compliance at scale., • Collaborate across teams, • Work closely with Linux, network, and DB engineers on cross-stack performance and reliability., • Clearly explain findings, tradeoffs, and recommendations to both technical peers and non-technical stakeholders. What You Bring • Storage engineering background (not just admin):, • ~5+ years in storage engineering roles for large Linux or virtualized environments., • Experience designing and running storage platforms, not just executing change requests., • iSCSI & multipath expertise:, • Deep familiarity with iSCSI at scale: targets/initiators, CHAP, session management, tuning., • Strong understanding of multipath IO (e.g., dm-multipath), failover policies, and queueing., • Troubleshooting mindset:, • Proven experience debugging complex storage performance and availability issues., • Comfortable using tools like iostat, vmstat, perf, system logs, and array tools to track down issues., • Linux & networking fundamentals:, • Solid Linux skills (RHEL / Oracle Linux preferred): filesystems, LVM, tuning, OS-level performance., • Good understanding of networking basics (TCP/IP, VLANs, MTU, routing) and how they impact storage traffic., • Scripting & automation:, • Ability to write and maintain scripts in Python, Bash, or similar to streamline storage tasks., • Experience with automation/configuration tools (e.g., Ansible) is a plus., • Advanced large-scale storage and backup engineering:, • Expertise in designing and managing petabyte-scale storage infrastructures with Infinidat systems, for performance optimization and resilience., • Proficiency in Commvault for enterprise backup, recovery, archiving, and data management, including integration with virtualized environments and automation of backup workflows., • Bonus experience (nice-to-have):, • OLVM or other KVM/RHEV-based virtualization platforms., • Enterprise storage platforms (NetApp, Dell EMC, Pure, HPE, etc.)., • Prior work in large, regulated environments (financial services, healthcare, etc.).
