This is an exciting opportunity to join HMRCs CDIO Chief Engineering and Platform Office (CEPO) Automation Platform Team. Join the Automation Team, Driving Innovation Across Government Established in 2015, the Automation Team is a pioneering unit within HMRC, formed through a collaborative blend of civil service and contracted expertise. We began by delivering attended dashboards and quickly evolved to implement over 80 fully unattended automation solutions, powered by 1,000-1,500 vSTRIDE virtual machines. As we continue to expand our capabilities, we're embracing cutting-edge technologies such as Optical Character Recognition (OCR) and Intelligent Character Recognition (ICR) through platforms like Hyperscience. Our work is not limited to HMRC, we actively support other government departments in shaping their automation strategies and delivering scalable, future-ready solutions. We are now recruiting for a key role that will work alongside our Change and Viability, build, Live and Platform teams to ensure new automation builds are production-ready and aligned with platform standards. This role will also contribute to the development of our long-term strategy, helping departments across government realise their robotics and intelligent automation ambitions The complexity or breadth of products or teams will vary in this role, depending on the work that comes in. Job description Key role and Responsibilities, Leadership of Delivery Teams • Provide strategic direction and day-to-day leadership to supplier delivery teams, • Responsible for the design, development, and operation of the Automation Platform., • Foster a high-performance culture focused on collaboration, innovation, and accountability., • Lead the end-to-end transition of automation solutions into live service, ensuring operational readiness, user support, and service continuity., • Collaborate with service owners, technical leads, and change managers to define and execute robust transition plans., • Own the operational "front door" process, managing and maintaining the horizon & Pipeline of work., • Conduct regular resource and capacity reviews to ensure alignment between demand and delivery capability., • Along with the ITDL & business areas ensure all delivery activities comply with internal governance frameworks, including risk management, reporting, and assurance processes., • Act as the escalation point for operational issues affecting delivery teams, ensuring timely resolution and minimal impact on service delivery., • Implement structured problem management processes to identify root causes and prevent recurrence., • Ensure all Statements of Work (SoWs) are accurate, up-to-date, and aligned with commercial governance requirements., • Oversee the validation and reconciliation of invoicing data, ensuring accurate cost recovery and budget tracking., • Collaborate with Profession Leads to develop internal capability in line with HMRC's resourcing strategy., • Support the recruitment, onboarding, and development of in-house talent, while maintaining flexible supplier capacity to meet peaks in demand., • Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including delivery partners, business units, and central functions., • Provide effective operational account management, ensuring transparency, responsiveness, and alignment with stakeholder expectations., • A strong working knowledge of Robotic Process Automation, • Leading teams through change, • Manage supplier performance and value for money., • Excellent communication and collaboration skills., • Excellent organisational and decision-making skills., • Familiarity with industry frameworks and best practices., • ITIL experience and a qualification Foundation., • Benton Park View, Newcastle - moving to Pilgrims Quarter, Newcastle, • Leadership, • Managing a Quality Service, • Pension - We make contributions to our colleagues' Alpha pension equal to at least 28.97% of their salary., • Family friendly policies., • Personal support., • A name-blind CV including your job history and key achievements reflecting the responsibilities of the role., • Leadership, • Managing a Quality Service, • UK nationals, • nationals of the Republic of Ireland, • nationals of Commonwealth countries who have the right to work in the UK, • nationals of the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein and family members of those nationalities with settled or pre-settled status under the European Union Settlement Scheme (EUSS) (opens in a new window), • nationals of the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein and family members of those nationalities who have made a valid application for settled or pre-settled status under the European Union Settlement Scheme (EUSS), • individuals with limited leave to remain or indefinite leave to remain who were eligible to apply for EUSS on or before 31 December 2020
