The Role: We are seeking a Head of Devices to provide strategic leadership and direction across the full lifecycle of smart metering devices within the UK’s national infrastructure. This pivotal role will shape the vision, strategy, and governance of device technology, ensuring it is secure, future-ready, and aligned with national energy and operational objectives. Leading a team of device specialists, engineers, and technical experts, you will drive excellence in device strategy, integration, and performance. You will be accountable for ensuring that device-related decisions support scalable, interoperable, and cost-effective solutions that deliver optimal outcomes for DCC operations and our customers. You will work across delivery, technology, commercial, operational, and regulatory functions to embed device strategy as a trusted enabler of business and customer outcomes. Your leadership will be central to ensuring suppliers are held to account for delivering robust device roadmaps, compliance with standards, and innovation that meets evolving service needs. This role is critical in shaping the future of smart metering devices and ensuring our device capability operates as a strategic enabler of national energy transformation. Responsibilities: • Device Strategy and Leadership – Define and communicate the strategic vision for smart metering devices, ensuring alignment with organisational goals, industry trends, and regulatory obligations., • Team Leadership and Capability Development – Lead and develop a high-performing team of device experts, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement., • Device Lifecycle Ownership – Oversee the full lifecycle of smart metering devices, from specification and certification through deployment, maintenance, and retirement., • Driving Performance and Accountability – Set clear expectations for device quality, performance, and compliance, holding internal teams and suppliers to account., • Enabling Transformational Change – Provide leadership on device-related aspects of major transformation programmes, ensuring devices are enablers of secure and scalable change., • Stakeholder Engagement and Influence – Represent the device function in executive, regulatory, and industry forums, building trusted relationships and influencing strategic direction., • Cross-Functional Collaboration – Ensure device decisions are integrated across business, technical, operational, and regulatory domains., • Governance and Standards Leadership – Lead device governance activities, ensuring consistent application of standards, frameworks, and best practices., • Supplier and Partner Management – Ensure suppliers deliver against device roadmaps, technical quality, and service outcomes., • Investment and Roadmap Planning – Shape business cases and investment proposals for device-related initiatives, ensuring strategic coherence and value for money. Skills & Experience: • Proven Leadership in Device or Technology Functions – Experience leading device strategy or technology teams in complex, regulated environments., • Strong People Leadership – Ability to inspire and grow high-performing teams, building capability and confidence across the organisation., • Track Record of Leading Complex Change – Experience driving device-related transformation programmes with significant business and regulatory impact., • Strategic Thinking and Decision-Making – Ability to balance long-term device strategy with short-term operational needs., • Commercial and Business Acumen – Understanding of how device strategy supports business outcomes and value delivery., • Executive and Stakeholder Engagement – Skilled communicator, able to influence and build trust with senior stakeholders and regulatory bodies., • Governance and Standards Expertise – Experience establishing and leading device governance and compliance frameworks., • Supplier Management – Ability to hold suppliers accountable for device quality, innovation, and roadmap delivery., • Excellent Communication Skills – Able to convey complex device-related information clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
