The role: This newly created role offers the opportunity to work both within our small, highly skilled ECC team offering a highly trusted night emergency and critical care service for our community and for referring vets, whilst also working as part of our established and experienced day team. We believe this hybrid role offers the chance to continue to develop your ECC skillset whilst being part of a trusted group of peers to continue your learning and expand your breadth of knowledge. With a commitment to excellence in general practice, surgery and emergency & critical care, you are driven to help animals medically and surgically when they are in need. Confident in diagnostics, medical case management and patient care, you have developed a strong reputation in your current clinic for reliability, expertise and good outcomes. Technical Experience Specification: (essential) • You are an experienced, confident and able veterinary surgeon who is used to managing cases from first consultation through full diagnostic work., • Proven experience in the diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of outcomes, including hospitalising patients and monitoring them during hospitalisation., • Experience in a range of procedures including:, • Gastrotomy, enterotomy (ectomy), splenectomy, cystotomy, GDV, extensive wound management and wound closure, • Head and neck procedures: enucleation, placement and management of chest drains, • and feeding tubes, • Limb, digit and tail amputation, • Emergency management of open and closed fractures and joint luxations, • Emergency management of spinal/neurological conditions prior to advanced imaging (in house CT)., • Competent in use of ultrasound & Radiography: A-FAST, T-FAST, EPIC Scan, examination of liver, spleen, kidneys and bladder, • Use of endoscopes for foreign body retrieval., • Understanding of blood gas analysis., • Experience with blood products., • Expert at managing perfusion status., • Skilled at CPR Responsibilities: • Consultation for new patients, • Perform appointments for accurate examinations, all relevant tests and accurate diagnosis, • Animals to be discharged the following day if admitted and deemed fit to leave - we do not discharge animals in the middle of the night, • Care of inpatients, • Diagnostic investigations for inpatients and new patients with timely reporting of results, • Surgical interventions for inpatients and new patients when indicated Essential to the role: • You are confident and happy to work as the only vet (with the support of an RVN), • Passionate about delivering outstanding emergency & critical care to animals in need, • Excellent clinical record keeping, • Maintain excellent communication across the entire team, • You can confidently and accurately estimate and charge for procedures, • With outstanding client management skills: you derive real satisfaction from finding solutions to problems, • Empathetic, open and honest communication skills, • Committed and hard-working, you truly enjoy looking after every animal in your care., • A team player, you enjoy working with and learning from others. Preferred Practical Skills & Experience: (not essential) • You are preferably an ECC certificate holder, • Adrenal, pancreatic, GI and cardiac ultrasound, • Advanced ophthalmology examinations and surgical procedures, • Liver lobectomy, GI stapling, nephrectomy, adrenalectomy, colectomy, anal gland excision, perineal hernia repair, colposuspension, urethrotomy(ostomy)., • Advanced wound closure techniques, • Endoscopy: experience in airway and GI, • Other head and neck: TECA, BOAS, Thyroid, Salivary glands etc, • Echocardiography, • Joint injections, • Orthopaedic surgery: fracture repair & luxation procedures via bone plating, ex-fix, IM Pin TPLO, TTA, MPL techniques, • Official veterinarian status Personal qualities: • You are capable of a wide variety of surgeries, but still enjoy all types of clinical work., • Passionate about delivering exceptional care to our patients., • Collaborative, you enjoy working with others in a supportive team environment. You listen to different perspectives and look to reach consensus and a way forward., • A problem solver: you discuss issues with others in a positive, constructive and empathetic way to find a solution., • A strong communicator, you understand the importance of keeping everyone updated and included in conversations., • The ability to multi-task, managing several demands simultaneously., • Flexible and adaptable (both in responding to last minute emergencies/ change of plans and understanding the pressure on others in such moments), • You think ahead to anticipate what the vets and patients need and organise the team to respond quickly and efficiently, • Kind & compassionate to pets, owners and colleagues alike, • Good humoured, you have a positive ‘can do’ outlook (and understand how important this is for the team culture) Hours & facilities: Hours are as published in the rota. This is a hybrid role that offers both day and night shifts. On occasion you may be required to cover out of hours patient care or emergencies. (eg: staff sickness, holidays or unavoidable emergencies) Work takes place in our purpose-built clinic on Chiswick High Road, Chiswick and in our purpose-built hospital on Wandsworth Bridge Road, Fulham.
