CPU RTL Design Engineer - Cambridge (Onsite) About the Role We are hiring a CPU RTL Design Engineer to work on next-generation high-performance, low-power processors. This role sits at the intersection of architecture, microarchitecture, and RTL implementation, with early involvement across the full product lifecycle. Responsibilities • Collaborate with CPU architects to explore and define high-performance microarchitectural strategies, • Drive microarchitecture development from early concept through detailed specification, • Own RTL design, development, refinement, and optimisation across power, performance, area, and timing, • Support functional verification through close collaboration with verification teams, • Support performance verification to ensure architectural and RTL goals are met, • Partner with physical design and cross-functional teams to deliver robust, manufacturable designs, • Contribute to timing, power, reliability, testability, and area closure Required Experience • Strong understanding of CPU and microprocessor architecture, • Deep expertise in one or more of the following:, • Instruction fetch and decode, • Branch prediction, • Instruction scheduling and register renaming, • Cache, memory subsystems, and prefetching, • Hands-on RTL development experience using Verilog and/or VHDL, • Experience with simulation, debug, and waveform analysis tools, • Solid grasp of logic design fundamentals, timing, and power trade-offs, • Understanding of low-power and high-performance CPU design techniques, • Experience using scripting languages such as Python or Perl Nice to Have • Exposure to performance modelling or architectural exploration, • Experience working closely with physical design teams In accordance with local employment laws, applicants must have current, valid authorisation to work in Germany at the time of application.
