Job Title: Newsgathering Operations Support Co-ordinator Job Ref: NGSC-459 Closing Date: 31st October 2025 Summary The Newsgathering Operations Support Co-ordinator plays a key role in ensuring the smooth running of Volant Media’s newsgathering operations. Reporting to the News gathering Senior Operations Manager and working closely with the Senior Newsdesk and Guest Producer, this role provides essential logistical and editorial support to ensure that field reporting, breaking news coverage and planned deployments are delivered effectively. The role requires exceptional organisational skills, strong communication and the ability to work calmly under pressure in a fast-moving news environment. Key Responsibilities • Support the Newsgathering Operations Manager in coordinating daily deployments, travel, accreditation, safety and kit for correspondents and crews., • Work closely with the Senior Newsdesk and Guest Producer to ensure operational readiness for live and planned coverage., • Monitor breaking news developments and help facilitate rapid deployment of teams when required., • Maintain accurate records of logistics, travel, accreditation and costs., • Track and compile figures on costs, expenses and deployments, providing regular updates to the Newsgathering Operations Manager., • Assist in monitoring budget use and highlight areas of concern or overspend., • Track the availability of correspondents, freelancers and support staff, assisting with fair and efficient resource allocation., • Ensure smooth communication between field teams and newsroom teams, relaying updates promptly and accurately., • Assist in ensuring safety protocols and compliance standards are followed in all deployments., • Provide operational notes and updates for daily and forward-planning meetings., • Contribute to the preparation of coverage plans, briefing notes and logistical overviews., • Help identify and escalate potential operational or editorial risks to the Newsgathering Operations Manager., • Provide general administrative and coordination support to the Newsgathering team as required. Requirements • Experience working in a newsroom, production or newsgathering support role., • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to juggle multiple tasks under pressure., • Good understanding of news operations and the demands of live coverage., • Proactive and solution-focused approach to logistical and operational challenges., • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across editorial and technical teams., • Familiarity with safety, editorial and compliance standards relevant to newsgathering (training can be provided)., • Strong administrative and IT skills, with confidence using newsroom and scheduling systems., • Ability to track, compile and present cost, expenses and deployment data accurately., • Fluency in English is essential; knowledge of Farsi or Dari is desirable., • A flexible and resilient attitude, with a commitment to supporting high-quality journalism., • Alignment with Volant Media’s editorial values and mission.
