Why This Role Exists This position is critical to maintaining the financial integrity and operational efficiency of our high-transaction business. As we continue to scale across multiple markets, accurate bookkeeping, reconciliation, and managerial accounting are essential for ensuring profitability, compliance, and effective cash flow management. You’ll play a central role in translating real-time operational data into clear financial insights that support decision-making, budgeting, and resource allocation. Working closely with our small, dynamic team of young professionals in our Battersea office, you’ll help bridge our tech-driven operations with disciplined financial controls and process efficiency. Role Summary We are seeking a detail-oriented Mid-Level Accountant/Bookkeeper to manage day-to-day financial operations, reconciliations, and reporting in our high-volume retail environment. You’ll handle accruals, intra-company payments, and process improvements while working closely with operations and support teams to drive efficiency and accuracy. Requirements Key ResponsibilitiesRevenue Bank Reconciliation Review remittance software dashboards for invoice or purchase exceptions, coordinate with Operations/Support for resolution, and post correcting journals. Reconcile ticket sales between Point of Sale (POS) and bank feeds, clear matched items, annotate outstanding ones, and escalate aged exceptions ( 2 cycles). Monitor weekly remittances, trigger collections workflows for unpaid invoices, and track until resolved. Adjust invoices and revenue recognition for event cancellations and refunds promptly. Log and manage invoices for operations, infrastructure, and accounts payable; code to correct GL accounts and include in weekly payment runs. Manage intercompany obligations (e.g., loan principal, interest, royalty fees) by scheduling settlements, posting accruals, and reconciling balances. Optimize daily liquidity by scheduling AP disbursements to align with marketplace remittances, minimizing working cash while avoiding disruptions. Financial Reporting Analysis Produce weekly management packs with KPIs and cash positions; analyze loss-performing events and trends. Maintain rolling budget/forecast, analyze variances, and highlight trends (e.g., average fee per ticket, cancellation rates, marketplace penalties). Prepare monthly/quarterly P L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow, and board commentary, updating for accruals, deferrals, and adjustments. General Ledger Compliance Post journal entries, accruals, and reallocations; reconcile key accounts (cash, inventory-in-transit, merchant fees) monthly. Maintain Xero for all company entities. Liaise with US and UK accountants quarterly to ensure compliance with local regulations (VAT, tax filings, audit preparations). Process Improvement Controls Design and document SOPs for AP, AR, bank reconciliation, and month-end processes; implement approval workflows and threshold alerts. Identify repetitive manual tasks and propose automations using Xero or other accounting software. Qualifications SkillsRequired Proven experience in high-transaction-volume environments, ideally in retail sales or e-commerce, with familiarity in cross-border transactions, foreign exchange (FX), and multi-currency handling. Deep knowledge of accrual accounting, bookkeeping principles, and intra-company payments/reconciliations. Proficiency in Xero and strong Excel skills for data analysis and reporting. Excellent attention to detail, analytical mindset, and problem-solving abilities. Strong communication and collaboration skills to thrive in a small, fast-paced team. Willingness to work in-office at least 4 days per week in Battersea, London, for real-time decision-making. Preferred Certification (e.g., ACCA, CPA, or equivalent) is a plus but not required. Experience with event-based or marketplace-driven businesses, including handling refunds, penalties, and variable revenue streams. Familiarity with UK and US financial regulations is a plus.
