An experienced Registered Nurse, who in addition to providing direct patient care, is accountable for facilitating an interdisciplinary approach to patient care, patient flow, staffing, resource utilization, and problem solving on a given shift. Responsibilities: • Facilitates unit operations on a shift basis according to policy, procedure, and regulatory requirements., • Coordinates unit based staffing assignments on a shift basis to achieve high quality and cost effective care., • Directs patient care provided by staff nurses and support personnel for a specific shift., • Champions new initiatives and helps in unit/departmental or hospital wide committees/task forces., • Communicates directly with patients and significant others about nursing care., • Implements appropriate action plans to provide safe, quality, and efficient care., • Assures safety and security of patients, significant others, and staff., • Provides direct patient care. Performs ongoing assessment of assigned patients and their significant others’ biopsychosocial and learning needs., • Implements appropriate actions to respond to needs of patients and their significant others., • Monitors and documents the patient’s response to therapeutic interventions and progress toward outcomes., • Assures that quality improvement activities are completed for the assigned shift., • Assesses and intervenes in critical situations involving patients, staff, and visitors and consults with manager or administrator for guidance as needed., • Ensures that the environment is clean, attractive, safe and free from hazards for patients, staff and visitors in accordance with regulatory requirements., • Analyzes patterns of daily activities and recommends operational/program changes as needed., • Anticipates staffing needs for subsequent shifts and makes necessary arrangements for coverage., • Facilitates effective interdepartmental communication of incidents with appropriate personnel (manager, administrator, medical staff, etc.). Identifies and communicates key issues and trends to managers and makes recommendations for improvement on an ongoing basis., • Provides input to manager on budgetary issues, particularly staffing and cost containment strategies., • Establishes relationships across departments to optimize patient care., • Assesses and communicates staff development needs to manager., • Orients staff to Clinical Coordinator and Charge role., • Serves as a resource for staff.Qualifications Required: • Baccalaureate degree from an accredited school of nursing. Never use corporal punishment, threats, derogatory remarks, or withholding of food as a means of managing behavior * Encourage self help and independence in developmentally appropriate situations. * Facilitate positive interactions and friendships among children and model pro-social language and behavior by interacting in a respectful manner with staff and children * Work with each child at their developmental level * Classroom Responsibilities * Provide high-quality care including changing diapers, following hand washing procedures for staff and children, participate in family style dining, and monitor the safety and well-being of each child * Follow a daily classroom schedule that includes choice time, circle time, gross motor sessions, and art/sensory activities * Through observation and assessment, support Lead Teacher in developing investigations and provocations that foster the interest of children while incorporating age-appropriate experiences and challenges * Support Lead Teacher in completing blogs, investigation templates, and portfolios at appropriate times * Support Lead Teacher in conducting regular documentation to be used to inform lesson planning as well as for display, both inside and outside of the classroom (photos, children’s work, quotes, observations, teacher reflection, etc) at appropriate times * Exhibit proper sanitation behaviors, such as washing hands after diapering or wiping noses, sanitizing tables and surfaces and sweeping floors after meals * Supervise all children at all times by sight and sound and include roster check after transitions * Participate in fire/tornado drills, and be aware of emergency evacuation plan * Check to make sure playground is free from hazardous objects and gates are closed and locked * Keep classroom reasonably clean and uncluttered * Have basic knowledge of NAEYC Standards and how they relate to curriculum, assessment, developmentally appropriate practice, parent communication, and safety * Have basic knowledge of DCFS Licensing Standards as it relates to teacher-child ratios, health & safety, sick policy, diaper changing policy, sanitation, and nutrition * Have the ability to implement best practice in order to meet and exceed Licensing Standards * Complete accident reports, incident reports and other paperwork in a timely manner - have parents fill out medication consent forms as needed * Working with Parents * Seek partnerships with parents while maintaining respectful rapport * Listen and respond respectfully to parents and remain tactful when discussing children - Ability to provide an environment in which children can feel comfortable, relaxed, happy and involved in play, recreation and other activities. b) Child care staff shall generally demonstrate skill and competence necessary to assume direct responsibility for child care including: 1. Skills to help children meet their developmental and emotional needs; and, 2. Skills in planning, directing, and conducting programs that meet children’s basic needs. c) Child care staff shall be willing to participate in activities leading to professional growth in child development and education, and in training related to specific needs of children served.
