Job Description For easiest apply please visit Position Summary The Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining and repairing production, packaging, and facility systems within a USDA-regulated meat processing environment. This position ensures that all equipment operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with food safety, sanitation, and regulatory standards. The role involves troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues, performing preventive maintenance, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives to reduce downtime and improve equipment reliability. Department: Maintenance Reports To: Maintenance Supervisor 6 day work schedule, varies by plant, 50-60 hours per week Pay is flexible based on experience: $26-$36/HR Location: Detroit, Michigan FLSA Status: Non-Exempt / Full-Time Key Responsibilities • Perform preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance on processing, grinding, cutting, packaging, and refrigeration systems., • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment, including conveyors, Vemag machines, slicers, mixers, grinders, stuffers, and vacuum sealers., • Ensure all equipment repairs and adjustments are performed in compliance with USDA, OSHA, and company safety and sanitation standards., • Support daily pre-op inspections by ensuring all equipment is operational and meets sanitary requirements prior to production., • Conduct and document preventive maintenance (PM) tasks as scheduled through the CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System)., • Assist with installation, modification, and commissioning of new machinery and production lines., • Work with the sanitation and production teams to ensure proper cleaning and reassembly of equipment following sanitation cycles., • Maintain proper inventory of spare parts, lubricants, and tools; report shortages to the Maintenance Supervisor. Education & Experience: • High school diploma or GED required; technical certification or associate degree in industrial maintenance, mechatronics, or related field preferred., • Minimum 5 years of experience in maintenance within a production environment, meat processing or USDA-inspected food facility preferred., • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, electrical troubleshooting, PLCs, and pneumatic/hydraulic systems., • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities., • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and equipment manuals., • Working knowledge of GMPs, HACCP, and USDA regulations., • Good communication and teamwork skills; ability to work effectively with production, QA, and sanitation teams., • Capable of working independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment., • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and climb for extended periods., • Regularly lift, push, or pull up to 60 lbs.; occasionally more with assistance., • Work in cold, damp, and humid conditions (typically 35–45°ree;F) for extended periods. This position operates within a USDA-inspected meat processing facility. Compliance with strict hygiene, sanitation, and PPE requirements (e.g., hairnets, frocks, gloves, hearing protection) is mandatory. The Maintenance Technician must observe all safety, food safety, and quality standards at all times. Day Shift- 5am - 3pm, Monday - Friday and every other Saturday Afternoon Shift- 3pm - 1am, Monday - Friday and every other Saturday Midnight Shift- 8pm - 6am, Monday - Friday and every other Saturday 50-60 Hours per week.
