Job Description Controls / Automation Technician – Automotive Manufacturing • Location: Shelbyville, IN, • Timeframe: 6–8 week assignment, • Schedule: Must be open to off shifts, weekends, and flexible manufacturing schedules, • Manufacturing Environment: Automotive glass manufacturing, including CBG (cutting, breaking, and grinding), glass painting, heat treatment, and final assembly Position Overview Seeking an experienced Controls / Automation Technician to provide short-term technical support in an automotive glass manufacturing environment. This role will work hands-on with legacy industrial controls, Allen-Bradley VFDs, Siemens SIMODRIVE 611 drives, Fanuc equipment, and six-axis industrial robotics. The ideal candidate will have strong experience troubleshooting older automated manufacturing equipment and be comfortable diagnosing electrical, controls, drive, and robotic system issues in a fast-paced production environment. Responsibilities • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and support industrial automation and controls systems used in automotive glass manufacturing., • Perform hands-on PLC troubleshooting and electrical controls diagnostics on legacy production equipment., • Troubleshoot and support Allen-Bradley VFDs (Variable Frequency Drives) and associated motor-control systems., • Diagnose issues involving Siemens SIMODRIVE 611 drives and other legacy drive technology dating from approximately 1999–2001 and the early 2000s., • Troubleshoot and support early-2000s Fanuc automation equipment., • Support six-axis industrial robots, including Fanuc robots and a large population of ABB handling robots., • Perform robot troubleshooting, fault recovery, diagnostics, and production support as required., • Support automated processes involving glass cutting, breaking, grinding, painting, heat treatment, material handling, and final assembly., • Diagnose equipment failures involving electrical controls, drives, motors, sensors, robotics, and automated machinery., • Work closely with maintenance, engineering, and production personnel to minimize equipment downtime and restore manufacturing operations., • Provide hands-on technical support during off shifts and weekends as production needs require. Qualifications • Experience with industrial automation, controls troubleshooting, or manufacturing maintenance in a production environment., • Hands-on experience troubleshooting PLCs and automated manufacturing equipment., • Experience with Allen-Bradley controls and VFDs., • Experience troubleshooting variable frequency drives, motors, and industrial electrical control systems., • Familiarity with Siemens SIMODRIVE 611 or comparable legacy Siemens drive systems is highly desirable., • Experience with Fanuc robotics, automation equipment, or controls., • Experience troubleshooting or supporting ABB robots, particularly six-axis material-handling applications, is highly desirable., • Strong understanding of six-axis robotics, automated material handling, and manufacturing equipment., • Ability to troubleshoot older or legacy controls systems where documentation or replacement components may be limited., • Automotive, automotive supplier, glass manufacturing, or other high-volume manufacturing experience preferred., • Strong electrical troubleshooting, diagnostic, and problem-solving skills., • Ability to work independently in a production environment and respond effectively to equipment breakdowns., • Must be available for a 6–8 week assignment in Shelbyville, Indiana., • Must be willing and able to work off shifts and weekends as required.
