Job Description NEW HOPE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR JOB DESCRIPTION (Revised October 2025) TITLE: Executive Director REPORTS TO: Board of Directors POSITION: Full-Time, Non-Exempt ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION: New Hope Grief Support Community (New Hope) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to help bereaved children and families find hope and healing through connection and support. New Hope has recently experienced a key leadership transition and is being led by an Interim Executive Director. The organization seeks an innovative and experienced leader to guide New Hope into its newest phase of growth. The Executive Director reports directly to the Board of Directors and is the key management leader of New Hope Grief Support Community. The Executive Director is responsible for leading the organization in implementing the mission, both internally and externally. The Executive Director oversees the organization’s administration and daily operations, guides the organization’s programs team, and is a primary steward of New Hope’s fundraising and community relations. The New Hope Executive Director position is a full-time position that offers a hybrid work environment. The Executive Director will be required to have an in-office presence twice per week at the organization’s office, located in Long Beach, California. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Strategic Planning and Board Management • Lead the implementation, evaluation and ongoing planning of the organizational strategic plan in line with the long-term goals and vision as set by the Board of Directors., • Ensure the organization continually meets or exceeds all commonly recognized “best practices” in its governance, finance, administration, fundraising, communications, operations and record-keeping., • Prepare and report on operational goals and other relevant focus areas to the Board of Directors at monthly Board meetings., • Support with Board recruitment and retention, in line with organizational needs., • Develop systems to communicate operations and program evaluations, and to track the progress of the growth plan and strategic objectives, to help the Board, funders, and other constituents make accurate and effective decisions., • Identify, recommend, and implement new business models for existing programs and program expansion. Financial Management and Development • Responsible for annual budget development, resource allocation and management sufficient to ensure the fiscal health and sustainability of the organization, in conjunction with the organization’s Certified Public Accountant and contracted fiscal support team., • Responsible for the fiscal integrity of New Hope. This includes submission to the Board of an annual budget and monthly financial statements, which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization., • Responsible for fiscal management that aligns organization operations with the Board approved budget, ensures maximum resource utilization, and maintains overall positive financial sustainability of New Hope. Leadership and Management • Lead, coach, and develop staff., • Ensure that the organization continually meets or exceeds commonly recognized Human Resources best practices so staff at all levels feel respected, empowered, and treated fairly., • Develop and maintain the highest levels of volunteer engagement and ensure a mutually satisfying, productive relationship between volunteers and staff., • Actively engage and facilitate productive cooperation between volunteers, staff, board members, program committees, community partners, and funders. Program Strategy and Management • Ensure ongoing excellence in operations and programs through partnership with the Program Manager and Volunteer Coordinator., • Participate in community organization collaboratives and collectives to help inform future grief group sites, grief community event spaces and collaborations, and steward mutually beneficial community partner relationships., • Ensure consistent high-quality standards and safety measures throughout all New Hope’s operations and programs., • Develop and maintain systems for ongoing, rigorous metrics and evaluation of programs and operations to continually improve their efficiency and effectiveness. Fundraising and Communications • Lead revenue generating and fundraising activities to support existing program operations and expansion including individual/major gifts, corporate partnerships, grant writing and foundation support., • Cultivate and steward relationships with current and prospective donors and board members, and other external stakeholders to build a sustainable foundation of support., • Develop and implement a communication strategy which including the following channels: website, social media, media, events, annual appeals, and e-news., • Lead the creation of a strong public “brand” of unquestioned trustworthiness, program effectiveness, and general excellence. QUALIFICATIONS: New Hope seeks an experienced non-profit executive with a proven commitment to human services. Minimum Qualifications Required: • 3-5 years experience in non-profit organizational management, including supervisory and leadership experience., • Familiarity and/or proficiency with managing an annual operational budget as well as facilitating fundraising (grants, individual donors) efforts., • Training and work experience in the human services, social services, or public health field (or equivalent)., • Undergraduate degree in relevant field (Graduate degree preferred). Additional Qualifications Preferred: • Graduate degree preferred in Public Administration, Social Work, Human Services, Business Administration, or equivalent., • Familiarity and relationships sustained with (community) partners in the greater Long Beach area.
