IIA is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to join our Nuclear Services team in San Antonio, TX. For nearly 50 years, IIA has grown alongside the nuclear power industry, becoming the go-to inspection, engineering, and outage experts for plant operators. As a full-service provider, Nuclear Services’ licensed professional engineers work closely with our non-destructive examination (NDE) experts to deliver turnkey solutions to clients in the nuclear industry. Position Summary The Electrical Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and testing control systems, electronic equipment, and automated inspection systems for NDE testing in the nuclear field. Key Responsibilities • Develop software for control systems that drive remotely operated vehicles using Command Line Interfaces, Automated Test Systems, and Test Program Sets., • Design electrical and electromechanical systems based on customer requirements, researching, and testing manufacturing and assembly methods, and soliciting observations from the engineering team., • Validate system and product capabilities and quality through feasibility testing methods, applying principles of circuits, motion control, networks, and power analysis., • Test and select components, such as motors, encoders, and cameras, based on system specifications., • Create product documentation and records, including electrical drawings, schematics wiring diagrams, capturing design intent and providing a clear layout for fabrication and diagnostic purposes., • Build, test, and oversee prototypes to ensure that they are functional, safe, and reliable to use correcting any problems that are encountered., • Perform Root Cause Analysis on and testing activities for inspection systems., • Perform procurement activities including component and vendor selection and PO generation, up to receipt inspection., • Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports., • Provide recommendations to the Engineering Manager regarding retrofitting and any modifications to existing control systems., • Work with the Engineering Manager, manufacturing group, and project teams to ensure that all elements of the project are integrated effectively and efficiently to meet customer demands., • Ensure compliance with all company and statutory procedures, standards, and specifications., • Test electronics for problems and propose solutions., • Inspect electrical components during and after the product installation., • Guide less experienced technicians and machinists. Qualifications Required: • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, • U.S. Citizen, • Willing to travel domestically and internationally, • Ability to satisfy all Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) security requirements to obtain unescorted access to U.S. nuclear power plants Experience & Skills Required: • Experience with GitHub and related APIs, • Able to program using C#, Python, and C++, • Familiar with Visual Studio, • Knowledge of Altium, • Experience using electronic test equipment, including oscilloscopes, multi-meters, and signal generators, • Experience in classic engineering calculations (circuits, power), • Schematic and wiring diagram development experience, • Detail-oriented engineering skills, • Strong skills in math and geometry, • Self-motivated and highly organized, • Strong verbal and written communication skills, • Excellent problem solving and time management skills, • Proficient in Microsoft Office, • Curious with a healthy sense of continuous improvement, • Ability to work well independently and in a team environment Preferred: • Master of Science in Electrical Engineering, • Experience with SolidWorks Electrical 3D or similar schematic software, • Knowledge of VISCA communication protocol for cameras, • Experience building control cabinets and/or soldering components to PCBs, • Experience with circuit simulation tools, such as OrCAD, • Motion Control experience with tuning servo systems, • Experience troubleshooting electrical noise issues, • National Instruments hardware experience, • Experience soldering Working Conditions • Typical working hours are from 7am to 4pm, Monday to Friday, although extended night and weekend shifts may be required on occasion., • Generally, work is in an indoor office/laboratory environment., • May be occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, climate/weather variations., • May be occasionally exposed to acetone, solvents, grease, cutting fluids, fumes, airborne particles, and toxic and/or caustic chemicals., • May be occasionally exposed to ionizing radiation. Physical Requirements • Must be able to, • stand or sit for extended periods, • walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, • occasionally lift and/or push up to 40 lbs, • Must meet vision requirements for the job, including near vision, color vision, and depth perception.
