Job Description One Tech Engineering is looking for a Substation Technician for a position located near Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Substation Technician will service and test transformers, relays, breakers, switches, and other electrical apparatus/systems at utility substations and industrial facilities. The candidate must be a US Citizen or a green card holder, the position is not eligible for sponsorship. The candidate should have an Associate’s degree in Electrical Power or Electrical Engineering, or 5+ years of hands-on field experience. Local candidates preferred. This is not a remote position. Substation Technician Responsibilities: • Ground grid testing, medium voltage cable testing., • Troubleshoot and test control circuits, communications systems, protections systems and other electrical apparatus., • Perform breaker and relay retrofits., • Ability to read prints and control/protection schemes., • Complete and submit reports accurately and timely., • All other duties as assigned by management., • Applying test procedures for various types of relay test equipment., • Substation awareness and Safety consciousness., • Aptitude to quickly learn and apply test procedures for various types of substation equipment., • Performs testing on low and medium voltage breakers including Megger, Ductor, Hi-Pot, Hi-Current, and Timing tests., • Testing on power transformers including Power Factor, TTR, Insulation Resistance, Winding Resistance., • Completes mechanical work and repairs on breakers including wiring, painting, parts replacement., • Utilizes and accurately reads meters., • Associate’s degree in Electrical Power or Electrical Engineering, or 5+ years of hands-on field experience., • Experience as a Switchgear/High Voltage Technician., • Proficiency with high voltage test equipment as well as knowledge of low and medium voltage test equipment., • Proficient computer and phone skills, to include Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)., • Ability to work a flexible schedule based on client/customer needs., • Valid driver’s license., • Effective communication skills., • Extensive travel; up to 5 days/week with overnights possible., • On call duty is required approximately six times per year., • This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, stooping, crouching, climbing, crawling, and reaching frequently., • Aerial work may sometimes be necessary, such as working on ladders or scaffolding.
