Job Description Join our Youth Development Team-Help set up a generation of high school students for academic success! The Y has been a trusted leader in youth development for generations. From first steps to first jobs, we create opportunities for young people to grow stronger, lead with confidence, and build a future full of possibility-through sports, tutoring, mentoring, and more. As an Afterschool Tutor you'll help students achieve their academic goals, while assisting them in gaining more knowledge through academic support in math, science or English language arts. In this role, you will partner with the YMCA after school program to provide 4 hours of after school tutoring to high school students on the campus of an LAUSD public school. Supported by a program assistant and YMCA Site Coordinate, the After School Tutor will provide a safe space for students to complete homework and school work, obtain tutoring services and advance academically. This is a seasonal position offered during the school year and on school days only. What you'll do: • Provide high school students with after school tutoring support in Math, Science, or English Language Arts – After School Tutor only needs to specialize in one of the three subjects (math or science or English language arts)., • Deliver subject specific tutoring instruction that aligns with California State Standards., • Foster a positive and inclusive atmosphere for all participants., • Support students in building confidence and mastering key concepts., • Collaborate with YMCA program staff to identify students in need of tutoring support., • Build strong relationships with students and promote academic motivation., • Must be 21 years old or older., • Must possess a valid California teaching credential., • Current LAUSD high school teachers are strongly preferred., • Subject expertise in high school level Math, Science, or English Language Arts., • Experience working with older youth (teens) in an educational or tutoring setting., • Strong communication and organizational skills., • Ability to create a welcoming and supportive academic environment., • Availability on school days; approximately up to 4 hours per week. This is a part-time, seasonal position. This position is typically two (2) days per week, for two (2) hours per day with hours typically taking place after school between 3:00pm-5:30pm., • $50/per hour for tutoring hours.
