\n Key Responsibilities \n\n • Provide technical leadership for the architecture, design, implementation, testing, and delivery of retail POS solutions.\n, • Lead the modernisation of Legacy POS platforms into scalable, containerised, microservices-based solutions.\n, • Work with business stakeholders, solution architects, vendors, and engineering teams to translate business requirements into robust and future-ready POS solutions.\n, • Lead and support NCR Voyix and Emerald POS implementation, modernisation, testing, and support activities.\n, • Provide technical expertise across Self-Checkout (SCO) and retail checkout technologies.\n, • Oversee integration and management of POS peripherals, including: \n \n, • Barcode scanners\n, • Printers\n, • Scales\n, • Payment terminals/devices\n, • Other in-store hardware\n \n, • Provide expertise in Store Controller operations, device management, hardware abstraction, and POS device integration.\n, • Design, develop, and maintain scalable test automation frameworks to improve test coverage, quality, and delivery efficiency.\n, • Lead automation initiatives using technologies such as Selenium Grid and Cucumber BDD.\n, • Explore and implement AI-driven quality engineering, intelligent test automation, emulators, and robotic validation solutions.\n, • Apply POS emulation, device virtualisation, and hardware abstraction layer concepts to support efficient testing and validation.\n, • Promote code quality and continuous improvement practices using tools such as SonarQube.\n, • Collaborate with platform, infrastructure, security, and operations teams to ensure reliable deployments and operational readiness.\n, • Act as the technical escalation point for complex POS and checkout-related issues.\n, • Provide technical coaching, mentoring, and guidance to cross-functional engineering and project teams.\n, • Drive continuous improvement, innovation, and engineering best practices across POS transformation initiatives.\n\n Essential Skills & Experience \n\n • Strong experience with NCR Voyix and/or Emerald POS platforms.\n, • Proven experience in retail POS implementation, modernisation, testing, and support.\n, • Strong understanding of Self-Checkout (SCO) and retail checkout technologies.\n, • Experience working with Store Controllers and POS device management.\n, • Hands-on experience integrating retail POS peripherals such as scanners, printers, scales, and payment devices.\n, • Strong experience developing and maintaining test automation frameworks.\n, • Hands-on experience with Selenium Grid.\n, • Strong knowledge of Cucumber BDD/Behaviour-Driven Development.\n, • Experience with POS emulation, hardware abstraction layers, device virtualisation, or retail systems testing.\n, • Experience with code quality and continuous improvement tools such as SonarQube.\n, • Understanding of modern application architectures, including microservices and containerised platforms.\n, • Experience providing technical leadership across complex retail technology or POS transformation programmes.\n, • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.\n, • Ability to collaborate effectively with business, technical, infrastructure, security, operations, and vendor teams.\n\n Desirable Skills & Experience \n\n • Knowledge of PCI-DSS and payment industry standards.\n, • Experience with retail fuel/petrol forecourt systems.\n, • Experience with performance testing tools such as JMeter or LoadRunner.\n, • Experience with AI-driven quality engineering and intelligent test automation.\n, • Experience working with cloud, containerisation, or platform engineering technologies.\n, • Experience within large-scale supermarket, grocery, convenience, or retail environments.\n\n Leadership & Collaboration \n The successful candidate will be expected to: \n\n • Provide technical direction and leadership across POS transformation initiatives.\n, • Mentor and support engineering and testing teams.\n, • Work closely with senior stakeholders and technology leaders.\n, • Manage technical risks, dependencies, and escalations.\n, • Drive engineering quality, automation, innovation, and continuous improvement.\n, • Ensure POS solutions are scalable, reliable, secure, and operationally ready.\n
