Estimator / Site Surveyor – Balustrades, Balconies & Stairs Location: Cardiff Salary: Competitive DOE Benefits: 25 days holiday + bank holidays, Pension Role Purpose We are recruiting an experienced Estimator / Site Surveyor to join our growing team. This role is responsible for carrying out accurate site surveys, interpreting architectural and structural drawings, and preparing detailed cost estimates for bespoke balustrade, balcony, stair, and handrail systems. You will play a key role connecting design, manufacturing, and installation, ensuring all technical and commercial details are correct from enquiry through to project handover. The successful candidate must have Balustrade & Handrail backgound Key Responsibilities Site Surveying • Conduct accurate site surveys for balustrades, balconies, staircases, handrails, and related metal, glass, or composite systems, • Verify site conditions against drawings, identifying discrepancies, access constraints, tolerances, and fixing requirements, • Record precise dimensions, levels, angles, and interface details with other trades, • Assess installation risks, access methods, and health & safety considerations, • Liaise directly with clients, contractors, and site managers during surveys Estimating & Costing • Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates using drawings, specifications, and survey data, • Measure and quantify materials including steel, aluminium, glass, fixings, finishes, and coatings, • Prepare labour, fabrication, finishing, transport, and installation costings, • Obtain and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations, • Produce clear, competitive quotations including assumptions, exclusions, and clarifications Technical & Commercial Support • Interpret architectural, structural, and fabrication drawings, • Identify value engineering opportunities while maintaining compliance and quality, • Ensure designs and estimates meet relevant regulations and industry standards (e.g. guarding heights, loadings, glass specs), • Support project managers, designers, and production teams with technical clarifications, • Assist with variations, re‑measurements, and post‑contract cost management Skills & Experience • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications, • Strong accuracy and attention to detail, • Confident communication with clients, contractors, and site teams, • Competent in measurement, take-offs, and cost build-ups, • Experience with glass balustrades, structural glass, aluminium systems, or steel fabrication, • Knowledge of UK Building Regulations and relevant industry standards, • Experience using estimating or CAD-related software, • CSCS card or equivalent site certification INDHP This vacancy is being advertised by TAY Recruitment (An Employment agency) on behalf of our client.
