Role Overview: The Engineering Director will provide strategic and technical leadership across our Client's engineering portfolio, ensuring the successful delivery of large and complex capital projects within the UK power and energy infrastructure sector. The role is responsible for engineering governance, technical assurance, safety in design, resource management, and stakeholder engagement across all projects. The Engineering Director will oversee engineering teams, ensure compliance with regulatory and legislative requirements, and support the company’s long-term technical and business objectives. Package: Salary - £100,000 - £120,000 Depending On Experience Standard Package Key Responsibilities • Ensure that appropriate and competent engineering resources are assigned to the delivery of large capital and complex design projects., • Identify, manage, and mitigate engineering, quality, and delivery risks to safeguard project quality, programme, and outcomes., • Provide technical leadership and governance, ensuring project designs comply with Engineering Works Information (EWI), applicable standards, and client requirements., • Ensure that technical requirements are clearly communicated to project teams and that designs are developed in line with agreed scopes and strategies., • Lead and oversee the early identification of technologies or systems requiring Technical Authority (TA) approval, and ensure approval plans are developed and implemented., • Schedule and chair design reviews, design assurance activities, and Design Authority Reviews as required., • Lead project coordination activities, including chairing meetings with contractors, consultants, and stakeholders (including remote design office)., • Organise and oversee technical workshops and safety reviews such as HAZID, HAZOP, HAZCON, and other structured risk assessments., • Promote and manage safety across the project portfolio, including Safety in Design, CDM Regulations, and Principal Designer (PD) duties, in collaboration with Project Managers and Lead Engineers., • Review construction methodologies, RAMS, and safety documentation to support safe commissioning and operational readiness., • Provide direct line management and oversight of Engineering Managers and Project Engineers, ensuring effective coordination of day-to-day engineering activities., • Develop, maintain, and strengthen relationships with external stakeholders, including clients, regulatory bodies, transmission operators, and industry partners., • Represent the client at senior technical, regulatory, and stakeholder forums as required., • Support senior management by clearly communicating complex technical issues, risks, and recommendations to enable informed decision-making., • Contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering processes, governance frameworks, and technical standards across the business., • Any other duties as deemed appropriate by the Board to support business growth and operational excellence. Minimum Requirements: • Education & Qualification: o Degree in a relevant engineering discipline (preferably Electrical Engineering) or equivalent professional experience. o Chartered Engineer status or equivalent professional recognition (preferred). • Experience: o Minimum 20 years’ experience delivering major infrastructure and capital projects, including FACTS projects (up to 400kV) within transmission and distribution networks. o Proven track record of managing complex, multi-million pound engineering programmes. o Demonstrable experience engaging with senior stakeholders, regulators, and technical authorities. • Technical Knowledge: o Strong technical knowledge of transmission and distribution networks and associated systems. o In-depth understanding of applicable UK legislation and regulatory requirements, including CDM Regulations, ESQCR, and asset/project governance frameworks. o Advanced understanding of engineering management systems, technical assurance processes, and capital project delivery models. Familiarity with UK DNO/ICP frameworks, NEC contracts, and renewable energy projects. • Skills: o Outstanding leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities. o Ability to set and steer strategic technical direction across the organisation. o Excellent communication skills, with the ability to challenge, influence, and present complex technical matters clearly and concisely. o Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills. • Other: o Eligibility to work in the UK. o Willingness to travel occasionally for project meetings, client engagements, and site visits. o Flexible and adaptable to meet business and project demands.
