Role Overview We are seeking Audio Recording Technicians based in London to join our Court Reporting Legal Services team as Independent Contractors. In this role, you will digitally record various types of legal hearings and maintain an accurate log of proceedings using dedicated recording equipment provided by Epiq. Most hearings will take place on-site in London, though occasional assignments may involve travel within the UK or abroad. Some hearings may also be virtual, allowing you to work from home. Travel and accommodation costs for remote assignments will be covered by Epiq. You will be technically adept, detail-oriented and able to manage your time effectively. For virtual hearings, you will need fast internet access and familiarity with online platforms such as Microsoft Teams or Zoom. When attending hearings in person, you must present a professional appearance and wear formal business attire. A clear criminal record is required, along with a willingness to apply for Counter Terrorist Check (CTC) clearance, which is essential for most contractual work. Assessment & Training Shortlisted candidates will complete Epiq’s online English, IQ, and typing assessments. Upon successful completion, you will receive full training in digital recording and logging and be issued with an Epiq laptop and audio recording equipment. Once onboarded, you will apply for CT clearance. Please note this is a self-employed role. Key Responsibilities • Set up and test digital recording equipment prior to hearings, • Operate and monitor equipment throughout proceedings to ensure a clear and continuous recording, • Maintain an accurate running log of proceedings, including speaker names and glossary details, noting the spelling of key words to facilitate the completion of an accurate, high-quality transcript after the hearing, • Save and archive recordings according to Epiq standards, • Report back to the resourcing team at the end of each working day, • Undertake training as required Personal Profile • Minimum A-Level education or equivalent, • Strong English language skills (grammar, spelling, punctuation), • Relevant experience in legal, parliamentary, or business settings preferred, • Full UK residency for the past five years and ability to pass CT clearance checks, • Interest in law and current affairs Key Skills & Competencies • Technical proficiency with digital audio recording equipment, • High accuracy and attention to detail, • Strong trouble-shooting and problem-solving skills, • Flexible and adaptable, • Punctual and self-disciplined, • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines, • Professional work ethic, • Confidentiality and discretion at all times Rewards & Benefits • Competitive pay rates, • Flexible working – earn extra income when it suits you, • Opportunities to provide services virtually, from home If you are interested in this role and have the skills and key competencies required, please email your CV and a cover letter detailing your suitability to .
