Reed is delighted to be working with one of our clients, who have approached us with the view of supporting them with appointing a new Head of Payroll. Our client is a Bromley/South East London based successful and established business, operating within the healthcare sector in the UK, and employing over 3000 people. \n As the newly appointed Head of Payroll you will be responsible for leading and managing the payroll function, ensuring the accurate, timely, and compliant processing of all payrolls. You will ensure compliance with UK payroll legislation, HMRC regulations, workplace pension requirements, and company policies, whilst driving continuous improvement across payroll systems, processes, and team performance. \n You will work closely with the Finance, HR, Operations, IT, and external system providers to deliver an efficient payroll service that supports the organisation's operational and strategic objectives. You will based out of the Central Bromley office, and will have responsibility for leading and providing people management to 3 payroll officers. \n As the newly appointed Head of Payroll, your duties and responsibilities will include : \n\n • Supervising and managing the end-to-end payroll function across all payroll entities within the organization by overseeing payroll imports, exports, pay elements, payroll departments, reports, and system maintenance.\n, • Ensure all payrolls are processed accurately, on time, and in accordance with company policies, statutory legislation, and payroll deadlines.\n, • Maintain complete payroll audit trails and ensure payroll data is processed securely and accurately. \n, • Review payroll calculations before approval, ensuring gross wages, net wages, statutory payments, pension deductions, payroll reconciliations, and payroll variance\n, • Maintain a comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of UK payroll legislation, including HMRC regulations, PAYE, National Insurance, Statutory Sick Pay (SSP), Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP), Statutory Paternity Pay (SPP), Shared Parental Leave, National Minimum Wage, National Living Wage, Apprenticeship Levy, Auto Enrolment Pension legislation, Attachment of Earnings Orders, Student Loans, and Real Time Information (RTI).\n\n\n, • Keep abreast of legislative changes by regularly reviewing HMRC Employer Bulletins, GOV.UK guidance, Sage Payroll updates, professional payroll publications, and attending relevant training.\n, • Oversee all statutory payroll submissions, including Full Payment Submissions (FPS), Employer Payment Summaries (EPS), PAYE payments, National Insurance submissions, P45s, P60s, P11Ds, year-end payroll processes, and any other statutory reporting requirements.\n\n \n Your experience, skillsets and attributes will include : \n\n • Significant experience managing UK payrolls.\n, • Previous experience as a Payroll Manager or Senior Payroll Officer.\n, • Advanced Sage 50 Payroll experience would be desired but not essential.\n, • Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation and HMRC regulations.\n, • Experience managing workplace pension schemes and pension portals.\n, • Experience completing statutory payroll submissions.\n, • Experience of payroll reconciliation and payroll reporting.\n, • Experience managing multiple payrolls across different entities.\n, • Previous experience leading and developing payroll teams.\n, • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.\n\n This role consists of attending the office 5 days a week.
