Job Title: Estimator Location: Romford, Essex Salary: £35,000 – £55,000 per annum (depending on experience) Department: Commercial / Pre-Construction Reports To: Sales / Commercial Manager Role Overview We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Estimator to join our clients team based in Romford. This role is responsible for reviewing project enquiries, preparing accurate cost estimates, and supporting the commercial team in securing new business opportunities. The successful candidate will work closely with clients, suppliers, and internal teams to ensure enquiries are assessed effectively and quotations are prepared to a high standard. This is a varied role within a busy construction environment and offers opportunities for ongoing development and training. Key Responsibilities 1. Tender & Enquiry Management • Review incoming enquiries and tender documentation., • Interpret drawings and specifications and carry out quantity take-offs where required., • Mark up drawings and supporting documentation to assist with pricing., • Prepare cost estimates for a variety of construction-related works., • Use company estimating systems and internal procedures to compile quotations., • Conduct site visits when required to better understand project scope and requirements., • Prepare defect schedules or reports where necessary. 2. Client & Industry Engagement • Complete and submit tender returns in line with client requirements., • Build and maintain positive working relationships with clients, contractors, and suppliers., • Communicate company standards and service expectations during the tender process., • Attend supply chain meetings, networking events, and industry engagements when required. 3. Cost Planning & Pre-Construction Support • Assess labour requirements and incorporate them into project costings., • Obtain and review supplier quotations for materials and subcontract services., • Assist with preparing outline project programmes and timelines., • Support the commercial team with pre-construction planning activities. 4. Knowledge & Professional Development • Maintain a good understanding of construction products, systems, and installation methods., • Keep informed of relevant industry legislation, regulations, and best practice., • Attend internal meetings, training sessions, and external events when required. Essential: • Previous experience in an estimating role within the construction industry., • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications., • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills., • Excellent written and verbal communication skills., • Good organisational and time-management abilities., • Experience within fire protection or fire safety related construction works., • Familiarity with estimating or cloud-based project management software.
