Rural Mutual Insurance seeks an experienced DevOps Specialist to support the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of a cloud-ready, automation-driven infrastructure. In this hybrid role for a Wisconsin resident, you’ll work at the intersection of development and infrastructure, helping us continue our journey toward a modern, cloud-ready, automation-driven environment. You’ll collaborate closely with application developers, infrastructure engineers, and security partners to ensure our systems are reliable, efficient, and built with best practices in mind. A typical day may include improving infrastructure through automation and infrastructure-as-code, strengthening CI/CD pipelines, enhancing monitoring and observability, or helping resolve and prevent production issues. You’ll contribute directly to system performance, uptime, and security—making an impact that’s visible across the organization. Compensation: $95,000 - $120,000 yearly Responsibilities: • Support the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of scalable, resilient, and highly available cloud infrastructure., • Develop and maintain infrastructure as code to ensure consistent, repeatable, and automated environment provisioning., • Manage the lifecycle of cloud services and infrastructure platforms, including upgrades, optimization, and decommissioning., • Support and enhance CI/CD pipelines to enable secure, automated, and reliable application deployments., • Implement and support monitoring, alerting, and observability solutions to ensure system performance, availability, and rapid incident response., • Contribute to infrastructure automation initiatives using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, Git, and enterprise job scheduling platforms., • Support containerization and orchestration platforms, including Docker and Kubernetes., • Assist in evaluating and implementing enterprise containerization platforms, ensuring alignment with scalability, security, and operational goals., • Analyze system performance, capacity, and usage trends to proactively improve system reliability and scalability., • Participate in on-call rotation to support production systems and respond to incidents as needed., • Maintain clear and accurate documentation of architecture, configurations, automation processes, and operational procedures., • Collaborate with Information Systems, Security, and business teams to support enterprise technology initiatives., • Maintain compliance with all company policies, procedures, and security standards., • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered., • 3–5+ years of experience in DevOps, cloud engineering, or infrastructure roles supporting production environments., • Hands-on experience with one or more major cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud., • Demonstrated experience supporting CI/CD pipelines and automation-driven environments., • Experience working in environments requiring operational reliability and disaster recovery., • Experience in insurance, financial services, or other regulated industries is strongly preferred., • Strong understanding of DevOps principles, cloud architecture, and automation practices., • Proficiency in scripting languages such as PowerShell, Python, or Bash., • Experience with infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform, ARM, or CloudFormation., • Familiarity with containerization and orchestration technologies, including Docker and Kubernetes., • Experience with monitoring, logging, and observability tools in cloud environments., • Knowledge of backup, disaster recovery, and high availability design principles., • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex systems., • Ability to manage multiple priorities and initiatives in a fast-paced environment., • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including documentation and runbook development., • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
