We’re seeking a Construction Cost Accountant to serve as a trusted financial partner on active general contracting projects. This role is designed for an experienced professional who understands how jobs really run — from pre-construction handoff through closeout — and who brings both financial discipline and strong interpersonal skills to the table. You’ll have ownership of project financials, direct interaction with project leadership, owners, and subcontractors– and the expectation to anticipate issues, not just report them. This is a hands-on role with meaningful responsibility — not a supervisory role, but one where your experience and judgment are expected to guide outcomes.What You'll Own: As a Construction Cost Accountant, you will have end-to-end accountability for the financial performance and reporting of assigned projects. • Full ownership of job setup, maintenance, and closeout across the financial systems, • Partnering directly with Project Managers on job cost accuracy, revenue recognition, and forecasting, • Reviewing, approving, and troubleshooting subcontractor and job cost invoices, • Preparing and analyzing monthly job cost reports, identifying trends, variances, and potential risks, • Managing monthly progress billings and monitoring over/under billings, • Preparing sworn statements and managing lien waiver compliance, • Supporting subcontract drafting, change orders, and contract modifications, • Monitoring receivables, retention, and subcontractor payments, • Ensuring project financials integrate cleanly into company financial statements, • Identifying opportunities to improve processes, controls, and reporting qualityWhat We're Looking For: This role is best suited for a seasoned construction cost accountant who is confident working independently and collaboratively., • 5+ years of construction cost accounting experience with a General Contractor or Subcontractor, • 2+ years of experience working in a construction ERP, such as Acumatica, Procore, Viewpoint, • Prior experience working with Cost-Plus contracts and MSHDA projects is preferred, • Demonstrated experience managing project financials for multiple active jobs simultaneously, • Strong working knowledge of construction accounting concepts, including AIA billing, progress billings, WIP, change orders, and percent complete revenue recognition, • Knowledge of contract management / compliance and lien waiversWhat Success Looks Like in This Role, • Project teams trust your numbers and seek out your input, • WIP and job cost reports are clean, timely, and defensible, • Billing is accurate, compliant, and predictable, • Financial issues are surfaced early and addressed proactively, • Processes improve because you bring experience and perspectiveWhy This Role Is Different:, • Accounting is viewed as a partner to operations, not a downstream function, • You’ll work on meaningful construction projects with real complexity, • Your experience will be relied upon — not micromanaged, • Stable organization with professional standards and long-term perspectiveWork Environment:, • Wolverine is a relationship-driven general contractor built on trust, accountability, and follow-through., • We believe strong projects come from clear expectations, disciplined execution, and open communication — not from heroics or last-minute fixes., • The Finance and Accounting team is viewed as a strategic partner to operations., • Project teams rely on accurate, timely financial information to make decisions, and leadership supports thoughtful, fact-based dialogue when issues arise., • People who thrive here tend to be professional, direct, collaborative, and solutions oriented., • We value experience, sound judgment, and people who take pride in doing things the right way., • We’re a team that values preparation over panic and discipline over drama., • Primarily office-based with potential visits to customer meetings.
