Job DescriptionSalary: 60,000-65,000 CleanAIRE NC (CANC) is an advocacy organization working for clean air and climate change solutions since 2003. Headquartered in Charlotte, our mission is to advocate for the health of all North Carolinians by pursuing equitable and collaborative solutions that address climate change and air pollution. POSITION The Health Manager is responsible for all activities related to CANC's Health Program. This includes engaging a statewide network of medical and health professionals at all career levels, from student to retiree, and promoting improved air quality and a stable climate through health education and advocacy to all members. The Health Manager will educate Health Program members, colleagues, and the public on environmental health impacts and advocate primarily on state-level policy, but certain initiatives also target institutional, local, regional, and national policies. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES The Health Manager nurtures and stewards a well-informed, diverse group of medical and health professionals who effectively advocate for CANC's healthy air and climate policy priorities and coordinate educational programming with our partners. This is accomplished by: • Lead the strategic planning, implementation, and evaluation of all health-related programs and initiatives (e.g., Asthma/Respiratory Health initiatives, heat-related illness prevention)., • Manage the Health Program membership by recruiting new members and engaging current members across the state., • Manage the Health Advisory Board, including the board's quarterly meetings., • Analyze, synthesize, and disseminate new research regarding the health impacts of air pollution and climate, and creating position statements for CANC's priorities, highlighting health impacts., • Measure the effectiveness of organizational activities and judging the significance of changes brought about by those activities across North Carolina., • Work with our Advocacy Manager to write op-eds or letters to the editor to support advocacy activities from a health perspective., • Review EPA air quality standards and working with the Advocacy Manager to create comments, statements, and health alerts., • Utilize and interpret complex environmental health data from the AirKeeper network, heat vulnerability indices from the Heat Mitigation Study, to identify priority areas and populations., • Translate technical research and public health findings into accessible, compelling language for community members, policymakers, and media., • Conduct research on best-practice public health policies related to climate change, air quality, and equitable infrastructure development., • Develop new and maintaining current partnerships with research institutions, health organizations, county health departments, and advocacy organizations, and relationships with members of the media and policymakers., • Develop training modules for volunteers and community scientists, focusing on health risk communication and community engagement best practices., • Identify and secure new grant funding from public health foundations, federal agencies, and health-focused philanthropic sources., • Lead the strategic planning committee and coordinating the logistics for the annual NC BREATHE conference, including coordinating the actions of event resources to identify venues, developing the agenda, coordinating the speakers, facility logistics oversight, organizing the poster session, managing staff support, etc., • Present at and attending events, conferences, and committee board meetings, including conducting the monthly air, climate, and health training with responsibility for curriculum development and delivery., • Draft content for communication platforms, e.g., blog posts, social media, action alerts, and a monthly e-Bulletin., • Recruit and supervising interns and volunteers., • Participate in fundraising efforts and administrative tasks with other staff for general organizational support and support of the Health Program. QUALIFICATIONS • Experience in developing, delivering, and evaluating educational health presentations., • Experience in public health, environmental project management, event planning, and policy advocacy., • Excellent networking, organizational, and written and verbal communication skills, and ability to present to diverse audiences, specifically racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse communities., • High level of comfort with technology, including Microsoft Office, G Suite, Asana, and Zoom., • Degree in health, environmental science, or related field or equivalent education and/or experience desired. WORK ENVIRONMENT The work environment requires someone who is a self-starter, confident, responsible, reliable, enthusiastic, and goal-oriented. The individual must be flexible in a rapidly changing work environment and work well independently and as part of a team. Must be able to endure some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities; recurring lifting of moderately heavy items such as office equipment and boxes of supplies. The work may require specific but common physical characteristics and abilities, such as lifting up to 50 pounds, above-average agility, and dexterity. WORK SCHEDULE & COMPENSATION CleanAIRE NC offers a competitive compensation package that includes medical, dental & vision coverage, paid time off (PTO), 403(b), company-paid holidays, cell phone allowance, STD & LTD and parental leave. The hiring range for this position is $60,000 - $65,000 per year, depending on experience. This position may require occasional evening, weekend work, and overnight travel.
