DIRECTOR OF MARKETING & SALES Exempt/Full-Time Salary Range: $55,000 to $60,000 annually, commensurate with experience. POSITION OVERVIEW The Director of Marketing & Sales is a strategic revenue leader responsible for driving earned income growth and building audience engagement across San Pedro Playhouse and Classic Theatre. This dynamic professional sets and executes ambitious sales goals, oversees all marketing and audience acquisition strategies, and leads the teams responsible for ticket sales, digital presence, and front-of-house and bar operations. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Advancement, the Director of Marketing & Sales works in close partnership with the Director of Development to create seamless, high-quality experiences at every patron touchpoint, from first awareness through post-show engagement, ensuring both earned revenue goals and donor cultivation opportunities are maximized. This role provides strategic leadership and oversight, with day-to-day execution carried out in partnership with department managers and frontline staff. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES • Revenue Strategy & Goal Setting: Establish annual and seasonal earned revenue targets for ticket sales, subscriptions, memberships, bar/concessions, and merchandise. Develop and execute comprehensive sales strategies to meet and exceed revenue goals, analyzing trends and adjusting tactics to optimize financial performance across both venues., • Marketing Leadership: Oversee all marketing initiatives, including season branding, show campaigns, digital advertising, email marketing, website management, content creation, and community outreach. Ensure marketing efforts align with organizational mission, artistic programming, and revenue objectives while building brand awareness throughout San Antonio and beyond., • Team Leadership & Development: Supervise and mentor the marketing team, Front of House, Bar, and Box Office team. Foster a collaborative, customer-focused culture that prioritizes exceptional service, professional growth, and accountability to revenue and experience goals., • Audience Development & Engagement: Implement targeted strategies to diversify audience demographics, increase subscription and repeat attendance, and position San Pedro Playhouse and Classic Theatre as must-visit cultural destinations. Collaborate with community partners and tourism entities to expand reach and visibility., • Sales & Pricing Strategy: Design dynamic pricing models, promotional campaigns, and subscription packages that maximize revenue while ensuring accessibility. Monitor sales performance daily, making data-driven adjustments to campaigns, offers, and sales channels., • Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Partner closely with the Director of Development to identify donor prospects from patron data, coordinate messaging across fundraising and marketing channels, and ensure VIP donor experiences are seamlessly integrated into front-of-house operations. Collaborates with the Vice President of Artistic and Programming to align marketing with artistic programming vision., • Front of House & Box Office Oversight: Ensure smooth, professional operations across all patron-facing touchpoints, including box office, lobby experience, concessions, and guest services. Hold teams accountable to service and sales standards that create exceptional experiences and convert first-time visitors into loyal supporters., • Analytics & Reporting: Track and report on key performance indicators, including ticket sales, subscription renewal rates, audience demographics, website traffic, social media engagement, earned revenue vs. goals, and more. Use data insights to inform strategic decisions and demonstrate ROI on marketing investments., • Special Events & Partnerships: Support mission-aligned special events that drive engagement and revenue. Build relationships with corporate sponsors, media partners, and community organizations that enhance visibility and create mutually beneficial collaborations. WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE IN THE FIRST YEAR • Demonstrated growth in earned revenue across ticket sales, subscriptions, bar and concessions, and other patron-driven income streams., • Improved audience engagement and retention, including progress in subscription renewal rates and repeat attendance., • Measurable progress in expanding and diversifying audiences through targeted marketing and community engagement strategies., • Strengthened coordination between marketing, sales, front of house, and development to create a more seamless and high-quality patron experience., • Demonstrated leadership in building a positive, inclusive, and accountable team culture that supports staff well-being, professional growth, and strong cross-departmental collaboration. QUALIFICATIONS • 5+ years of proven experience in marketing, sales, or revenue leadership roles, preferably within the performing arts, entertainment, cultural nonprofit sector, or other ticketed entertainment or visitor-based organizations., • Deep love and understanding of theatre with ability to authentically represent the art form and connect with theatre audiences across demographics., • Demonstrated success in setting and achieving ambitious earned revenue goals through strategic marketing and sales initiatives., • Strong leadership experience managing diverse teams across marketing, sales, and customer service functions., • Expertise in digital marketing, including social media strategy, email campaigns, paid advertising (Google, Meta), website optimization, and analytics tools (Google Analytics, social insights, CRM platforms)., • Proficiency with ticketing systems, CRM/donor databases, and sales analytics platforms., • Exceptional analytical skills with ability to translate data into actionable strategies., • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to collaborate across departments and engage diverse stakeholders., • Flexibility to work evening and weekend hours during productions and peak sales periods., • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business, Arts Administration, Communications, or related field preferred.
