Energy Auditing & Site Assessments • Conduct detailed on-site energy audits of commercial and industrial HVAC systems., • Evaluate existing Building Automation Systems (BAS/DDC) for operational efficiency and control strategy effectiveness., • Identify deficiencies in sequences of operation, control loops, sensor accuracy, and equipment performance., • Collect, trend, and analyze field data (temperatures, flows, pressures, run times, etc)., • Perform Level I–III ASHRAE energy audits as required., • Document existing conditions and provide actionable recommendations for optimization., • Collect and distill Utility billing data for consumption and spend2. DDC Controls Optimization & Analysis, • Review and validate existing DDC control sequences for HVAC systems (AHUs, RTUs, CHWs, HW systems, VAVs, etc.)., • Develop improved control strategies to optimize:, • Energy efficiency, • Comfort, • Equipment lifecycle, • Perform reprogramming or provide detailed sequences for controls contractors., • Analyze and resolve issues such as:, • Simultaneous heating & cooling, • Improper economizer operation, • Poor setpoint management, • Implement demand control strategies (e.g., supply air reset, chilled water reset, static pressure reset)., • Utilize trend logs and analytics tools to identify optimization opportunities.3. Energy Modeling & Simulation, • Develop building energy models using tools such as:, • eQUEST, • EnergyPlus / OpenStudio, • TRACE 3D / HAP, • Calibrate models using utility data and field measurements., • Evaluate energy conservation measures (ECMs), including:, • Control system upgrades, • Equipment retrofits, • Operational changes, • Quantify projected energy savings, cost savings, and ROI., • Support measurement & verification (M&V) using IPMVP methodologies.4. HVAC Systems Performance Analysis, • Analyze performance of key HVAC systems:, • Chilled water plants, • Hot water systems, • Air handling systems, • Ventilation systems, • Identify inefficiencies such as:, • Equipment short cycling, • Excessive ventilation, • Poor part-load performance, • Perform load calculations and compare against actual system operation., • Evaluate system capacity vs. demand to identify oversizing or control issues.5. Controls Design & Sequence Development, • Develop detailed HVAC sequences of operation aligned with:, • ASHRAE guidelines (e.g., Guideline 36), • Owner project requirements (OPR), • Specify control points, sensors, and instrumentation., • Support the design of new BAS/DDC systems or retrofits., • Review and approve control submittals, shop drawings, and sequences.6. Commissioning & Retro-Commissioning (RCx), • Participate in or lead commissioning and retro-commissioning efforts., • Verify proper installation and operation of controls and HVAC systems., • Develop and execute functional performance tests (FPTs)., • Identify and correct operational issues post-installation., • Provide recommendations to improve system reliability and efficiency.7. Data Analytics & Continuous Monitoring, • Utilize BAS data, cloud analytics platforms, or fault detection & diagnostics (FDD) tools., • Develop dashboards and KPIs for energy performance monitoring., • Conduct ongoing monitoring-based commissioning (MBCx)., • Identify anomalies and recommend corrective actions., • Implement automated fault detection rules.8. Energy Conservation Measures (ECM) Development, • Identify, develop, and prioritize ECMs such as:, • Setpoint optimization, • Scheduling improvements, • Advanced control logic, • Equipment upgrades, • Develop cost estimates and financial analysis (NPV, IRR, payback)., • Prepare technical reports and business cases for stakeholders.9. Utility & Incentive Program Support, • Support utility rebate and incentive applications., • Provide required documentation, calculations, and savings estimates., • Coordinate with program administrators and verify compliance requirements.10. Documentation & Reporting, • Prepare comprehensive audit reports, including:, • Findings, • Energy savings opportunities, • Financial analysis, • Develop sequence of operations documents and control narratives., • Maintain accurate records of system configurations and changes., • Present findings to clients, facility teams, and stakeholders.11. Collaboration & Project Support, • Work closely with:, • Mechanical engineers, • Controls contractors, • Facility managers, • Commissioning agents, • Provide technical guidance during installation, startup, and optimization., • Support project execution from concept through implementation.12. Compliance & Standards, • Ensure all work aligns with:, • ASHRAE standards (e.g., 90.1, Guideline 36), • Local energy codes, • Sustainability initiatives (LEED, ENERGY STAR), • Stay current with industry trends in smart buildings, IoT, and advanced controls.13. Training & Knowledge Transfer, • Train facility staff on BAS/DDC operation and optimized control strategies., • Develop documentation and standard procedures for ongoing operations., • Support continuous improvement initiatives.Key Competencies / Skills, • Strong understanding of HVAC systems and psychrometrics, • Expertise in DDC/BAS systems (e.g., Automated Logic, Johnson Controls, Siemens, Trane, Schneider, Honeywell), • Experience with trend analysis and data-driven decision making, • Proficiency in energy modeling tools, • Knowledge of control sequences and optimization strategies, • Familiarity with ASHRAE standards and energy codes Benefits: Benefits include paid vacation, 50% 401K match program up to 4% of gross pay, Safe Harbor company contribution 3% of your annual salary, a company supplemented health insurance program, plus employer paid life insurance, short- and long-term disability.
