Purpose of the Role at ProsperUs As the Communications & Brand Manager, you will lead ProsperUs’ storytelling, brand stewardship, and marketing communications strategies to advance our mission and vision. You will manage the voice, visuals, and reputation of ProsperUs with care, ensuring communications are consistent, equity-centered, and aligned with organizational priorities. Partnering across teams, you will strengthen internal and external communications, support fund development, and amplify the stories of entrepreneurs and communities we serve. Responsibilities • Steward the ProsperUs brand by managing voice, visuals, and guidelines across all programs and partners., • Lead the narrative framework and marketing communications strategy with an equity lens, aligning annual communications priorities with organizational goals., • Collaborate with the Collaborative Partnerships Director on strategic communications that elevate ProsperUs’ mission and vision., • Manage the organization-wide communications calendar, coordinating with program teams and fund development., • Build templates and toolkits (e.g., one-pagers, slide decks) and coach staff to tell stories with consistency and care., • Support fund development by crafting data-informed strategies, grant narratives, and impact stories with organizational leadership., • Lead media relations by maintaining press lists, pitching stories, and preparing spokespeople., • Manage thought leadership by cultivating speaking engagements, awards, op-eds, and executive visibility opportunities., • Coordinate issues and crisis communications by monitoring risks, preparing holding lines, managing approvals, and delivering timely updates., • Oversee social media strategy and storytelling, while managing a digital marketing provider for execution., • Build a people-centered storytelling pipeline and deliver content packages (interviews, video, photos, blogs)., • Plan and evaluate paid and organic campaigns with clear goals, budgets, and KPIs; aligning conversion paths with program needs., • Lead email marketing, including newsletters, segmentation, automations, and list growth., • Manage the website, improving accessibility, SEO, and content management., • Coordinate content production and asset management, overseeing workflows and asset libraries., • Manage internal communications request intake, triage, and project management; facilitate ProsperUs’ Storytelling Circle., • Lead quarterly communications analytics, integrating digital provider reports, and recommend next actions., • Collaborate with the Operations Manager to advance language access in communications., • Continue to deepen knowledge of equitable entrepreneurship, community development, and race equity., • Assist with special projects and other tasks necessary to advance ProsperUs’ mission and goals., • You have experience within neighborhoods and communities like those that ProsperUs serves. You are familiar with community-based organizations (CBOs), community development financial institutions (CDFIs), and nonprofits in Detroit and the region., • You are a strong writer and editor who can turn complex, programmatic work into clear, people-centered stories across web, email, and social., • You are skilled at managing multiple priorities and timelines; you plan campaigns and events with intention, communicate changes early, and deliver on time., • You are interested in working with technology systems and you can learn and use new software and tools as required. Experience with Salesforce is a plus, and training will be provided., • You have a personal and professional commitment to intersectional equity, including the dismantling of racism and other forms of oppression that exist in the communities ProsperUs serves, specifically Black, Latinx, Arab, immigrant, and low- to moderate-income communities., • You can manage timelines and understand how to communicate your needs to others including team members, partners, and other stakeholders., • You want to find a solution. You can demonstrate proactive, entrepreneurial approaches to problem-solving with strong decision-making capability., • You are self-motivated and able to work independently, but you also have practice working with internal or external teams and appreciate collaboration., • Familiarity with and/or knowledge of entrepreneurship and community economic development is helpful., • At least three years’ experience in communications or marketing; nonprofit experience preferred. A bachelor’s degree in a related field is a plus., • Strong technical skills and experience working with WordPress, Mailchimp, Trello, Later, or other similar communications tools., • Project management experience leading timelines, deliverables, and cross-functional coordination., • Intermediate creative skills producing digital assets for web, social media, and other visual communications collateral (e.g., simple video edits, graphics, and presentations)., • Vendor management experience with photographers, videographers, web designers, and digital marketing providers (scoping, feedback, and deadlines)., • Strong copywriting skills, including adapting existing copy for multiple platforms (web, email, social, print)., • Flexibility in days and hours available for scheduled work, including regular evening engagements and occasional weekend commitments. We participate in a variety of events and collaborations, so we encourage team members to work additional hours with a schedule that works for them., • Flexible Work Environment: We encourage hybrid home / office work. Team members primarily work in-person, with two remote workdays allowed per week.
