Job Description Job Title: TIG / MIG Welder – Ornamental Metal Fabrication Job Description This role focuses on TIG, stick, and some MIG welding on a wide range of ornamental and architectural metal products, including railings, stainless steel components, guardrails, and other custom metalwork. You will set up your own welding equipment, read and interpret fabrication drawings, and perform both welding and fabrication/prep work in a dynamic environment that includes shop and field assignments. Responsibilities • Perform stick, predominantly TIG, and some MIG welding on ornamental metal, railings, stainless steel components, guardrails, and other custom fabrications., • Set up welding machines independently for each process, including TIG, MIG, and stick, based on project requirements and materials., • Pass and maintain proficiency in 3G and 4G weld tests to meet quality and safety standards., • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and fabrication drawings to ensure accurate layout, fit-up, and assembly of components., • Fabricate metal components such as vertical members, 1/2" plate, tubing, and pipes according to design specifications., • Assist in the fabrication of architectural and ornamental metalwork, including bronze elements, glass stair rails, guardrails, handrails, column enclosures, escalator and power-walkway cladding, elevator interiors, interior wall panels, and beam and soffit cladding., • Use power tools such as grinders, drills, chop saws, skill saws, sanders, and other hand and pneumatic tools to cut, grind, fit, and finish metal components., • Measure and mark materials accurately using tape measures and other measuring tools to ensure precise fabrication and fit., • Perform fabrication and prep work, including cutting, fitting, cleaning, and finishing metal parts, not just welding., • Work safely and efficiently in both indoor shop and outdoor field environments, including job sites, as required., • Lift, move, and position materials and equipment weighing 50 pounds or more as part of daily tasks., • Support cross-functional work as needed, including opportunities to cross-train in related areas such as glazing., • Follow all safety procedures, including appropriate use of personal protective equipment and adherence to shop and field safety protocols. Essential Skills • At least 2 years of MIG welding experience., • Proficiency in TIG welding, including stainless steel and aluminum TIG welding., • Ability to perform stick welding in addition to TIG and MIG processes., • Ability to set up welding machines independently for TIG, MIG, and stick processes., • Capability to pass 3G and 4G weld tests., • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and fabrication drawings., • Hands-on fabrication experience with vertical members, 1/2" plate, tubing, and pipes., • Experience with architectural and ornamental metalwork, including railings and guardrails., • Skilled use of power tools such as grinders, drills, chop saws, skill saws, sanders, and other hand and pneumatic tools., • Proficient use of tape measures and other measuring tools for accurate layout and fabrication., • Ability and willingness to perform fabrication and prep work in addition to welding., • Ability to lift 50+ pounds safely and repeatedly., • Valid driver’s license., • Reliable personal vehicle for transportation to the shop and field sites., • Willingness and ability to work in both shop and field environments, including going into the field as needed. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience with stainless steel and aluminum TIG and MIG welding on ornamental or architectural projects., • Experience in architectural and ornamental metalwork such as glass stair rails, handrails, guardrails, column enclosures, escalator and power-walkway cladding, elevator interiors, interior wall panels, and beam and soffit cladding., • Comfort working with bronze and other specialty metals used in custom architectural applications., • Familiarity with using pneumatic tools, hand tools, and various saws in a fabrication environment., • Ability to work early shifts and extended hours, including potential 10-hour days and some Saturdays., • Strong attention to detail and quality in both welding and fabrication work., • Willingness to cross-train into related trades, such as glazing, to broaden skills and support project needs. Work Environment You work in both indoor shop and outdoor field environments, contributing to the design and fabrication of custom railings and other architectural metal features. The shop does not have air conditioning, so you should be comfortable working in warm conditions. The standard schedule is approximately 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with the possibility of starting as early as 4:00 a.m. when needed. There is currently a high volume of work, and you may be asked to work 10-hour days and some Saturdays, providing significant overtime opportunities. You must be willing and able to go into the field for on-site work. The role requires the use of a wide range of tools and equipment, including welding machines, grinders, drills, chop saws, skill saws, sanders, pneumatic tools, and hand tools, in a busy fabrication setting. The dress code requires steel-toe footwear and long pants starting on day one; shorts are not permitted and wearing them may result in being sent home for the day. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Phoenix, AZ. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $26.00/hr.
