Job Description Job Title: Level III Mechanical Quality Inspector Job Description The Level III Mechanical Quality Inspector serves as a technical and leadership resource, responsible for advanced mechanical inspection, precise GD&T interpretation, and strict adherence to quality system requirements. This role ensures that machined and fabricated components consistently meet engineering specifications and customer requirements, while actively supporting and strengthening the organization’s ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System and continuous improvement initiatives. Responsibilities • Perform complex first article (FAIR), in-process, final, and receiving inspections on precision-machined and fabricated components., • Interpret and validate compliance with complex engineering drawings, specifications, and customer requirements to ensure product conformity., • Apply advanced GD&T principles to verify the form, fit, and function of tight-tolerance mechanical components., • Inspect complex geometries using advanced metrology methods, including programming and operating CMM and FARO equipment., • Develop robust inspection strategies for tight tolerance and high-risk features to minimize quality risk., • Perform and support weld inspections in accordance with AWS standards and other specialized inspection requirements as applicable., • Review and redline engineering drawings and travelers to improve clarity, manufacturability, and inspection effectiveness., • Ensure compliance with ISO 9001:2015 requirements, including monitoring and measuring resources, in-process controls, identification and traceability, final product release, and control of nonconforming outputs., • Lead and participate in internal ISO 9001 audits, verifying process adherence and identifying gaps and improvement opportunities., • Support corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) and conduct root cause analysis to resolve quality issues and prevent recurrence., • Maintain and improve inspection records, FAIR documentation, and traceability systems in alignment with QMS requirements., • Assist in the creation and revision of Work Instructions and Operational Method Sheets to standardize inspection and quality processes., • Execute FAIR inspection and reporting, including submission and validation activities., • Support calibration and traceability programs, ensuring monitoring and measuring equipment remains accurate and compliant., • Participate in improvement teams and quality initiatives focused on enhancing product quality, process capability, and system performance., • Use strong computer skills to analyze quality data, maintain quality records, and support quality system tools., • Exercise sound judgment and decision-making in product acceptance and nonconformance disposition., • Provide leadership and mentorship to other inspectors and team members, sharing technical expertise in metrology, GD&T, and quality practices., • Plan, organize, and document inspection activities with a high level of discipline and attention to detail., • Communicate effectively across departments, including engineering, production, and quality, to resolve issues and align expectations., • Proficiency with hand measuring tools, including calipers, micrometers, height gages, thread gages, and bore gages., • Strong ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and execute precise mechanical inspections., • Demonstrated experience performing FAIR inspections and generating FAIR reports., • Knowledge of RMA processes, traceability requirements, and part marking practices., • Hands-on experience with optical comparators, including operation and basic programming., • Experience performing in-process, receiving, and production inspections in a manufacturing environment., • Intermediate GD&T knowledge with demonstrated application in inspection activities., • Working knowledge of ISO 9001 quality systems and their application to inspection and production processes., • Advanced technical expertise in metrology and GD&T sufficient to support complex inspection and decision-making., • Strong judgment and decision-making skills related to quality acceptance and nonconforming product control., • Effective communication skills for cross-functional collaboration with engineering, production, and quality teams., • Strong planning, organizational, and documentation skills to manage inspection workload and records., • Advanced CMM and FARO programming skills, including development of inspection strategies for complex geometries., • Experience performing and supporting weld inspections in accordance with AWS standards., • Experience with CMM and FARO operation for inspection of tight-tolerance and complex components., • Internal auditing experience in an ISO 9001 environment, including process evaluation and gap identification., • Experience supporting calibration and traceability programs for monitoring and measuring equipment., • Ability to redline drawings and travelers to enhance clarity, manufacturability, and inspectability., • Experience assisting in the creation and maintenance of Work Instructions and Operational Method Sheets., • Experience with laser part engraving, including basic programming for part identification and traceability., • Experience with FAIR submission and validation processes in a customer or regulatory environment., • Strong computer literacy for data analysis, documentation, and use of electronic quality systems., • Demonstrated leadership and mentorship capabilities within a quality or inspection team. Work Environment The role is based in a positive-pressure, HEPA-filtered cleanroom within an ISO-certified manufacturing environment. You will conform to all cleanroom gowning procedures and present a professional image in accordance with company appearance standards. The broader manufacturing area may include some noise and plastic chips, and the use of safety glasses and hearing protection is recommended when working near machinery or outside designated safety corridors. The position requires the ability to stand at a workstation for the designated shift and to lift and carry up to 35 pounds. All work follows established safety practices and procedures to maintain a safe, clean, and well-controlled environment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tigard, OR. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $27.00/hr.
