You will have the responsibility of supporting patients and families on Navian Hawaii's Pediatric Hospice and Palliative Care Program. POSITION SUMMARY Promotes a healthy/healing environment for patients as they deal with the emotionally and physically demanding process of coping with a life-threatening illness through assessment, advocacy, and education. Proactively supports efforts that ensure delivery of developmentally appropriate care/services and promotes a safe environment. Primary Responsibilities: • Provides communication in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory manner that is sensitive to the patient/family diversity, preserving their autonomy, dignity and rights., • Prepares an Agenda and CM folders for Weekly IDG and team meetings with all updates., • Answers and distributes phone calls for designated team., • Monitor and order department supplies/assist Supplies Manager with pediatric specific supply list/needs., • Obtain additional medical records from physician offices and hospitals as needed for patient care., • Assist Pediatric Nurse Manager and DCO with Quality Assessment Performance Improvement., • Compose/update patient MAR to be distributed to families (every two weeks after PEDS IDG)., • Follow-up calls with pharmacies for stock checks and availability/concentration of pediatric specific medications., • Follow-up with fellow pediatric team members at Kapiolani (e.g., complex care/rehab services/lab/peds specialists)., • Ongoing inventory, organization and tracking of child life donations/toys/supplies., • Assist MD and RN Manager with scheduling of patient visits as well as follow-up with CTIs/F2Fs., • Under direct supervision of RN Manager, assist with family follow-up calls regarding patient med/treatment changes., • Make follow-up calls/check-in with DME company regarding pediatric specific equipment., • Assist with tracking of grant monies and help with reimbursement submissions for child life activity supplies., • Participates as a member of the interdisciplinary team by integrating child life goals into the total care of the child/family under the direct supervision and guidance of the Pediatric Nurse Manager., • Assistance with developmentally appropriate legacy and memory activities for the child and/or siblings facing end of life, to allow expression of feelings, and inclusion in the process., • Reports needed follow-up to appropriate personnel in a timely manner., • Outstanding communication, education, and customer service skills., • Ability to prioritize, problem solve, manage multiple tasks and work independently., • Ability to collaborate with others on the interdisciplinary team and with community partners., • Demonstrates ethical conduct and judgment that is in harmony with the mission and values of Navian Hawaii., • Medical Assistant Certification preferred or 3 years of medical secretarial experience, • Pediatric experience of 2 years or more preferred, • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, • Indoors in an air-conditioned office as well as outdoors in all types of weather., • Operates phone system, computer (Word, Excel, Microsoft Outlook, Electronic Medical Records and e-mail) pencil sharpener, and calculator, copier, facsimile, and postage machines., • Frequent use of own personal motor vehicle which meets valid registration and insurance requirements. Must possess a valid Drivers' License, current auto insurance, and reliable transportation., • Vehicle must be in good operational condition with ability to travel long distances. Hours: • Generally, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am through 4:30 pm.
