Job Description Job Title: Material Handler Job Description The Material Handler safely operates sit-down and stand-up forklifts to move materials between docks, inventory, and production lines, while supporting both warehouse and production operations. This role focuses on staging, stacking, wrapping pallets, and preparing products for shipment across multiple shifts in a modern, temperature-controlled facility. Responsibilities • Operate sit-down and stand-up forklifts to move materials to and from production lines, docks, and inventory locations., • Gather materials from inventory and deliver them to production lines in a timely and accurate manner., • Transport finished goods from production lines to docks and from docks to inventory as required., • Stage, stack, and securely wrap pallets to ensure safe storage and transport., • Prepare products for shipment by organizing and consolidating orders according to shipping requirements., • Load and unload trucks safely and efficiently using forklifts and other material handling equipment., • Support both production and warehouse/shipping areas, spending approximately half of the time in each environment., • Use RF scanners to track inventory movement and maintain accurate records of materials handled., • Lift, sort, count, and organize products to maintain an orderly and efficient work area., • Perform packaging and packing tasks as needed to support production and shipping schedules., • Follow all safety procedures and guidelines while operating equipment and handling materials., • Assist with general labor tasks related to material handling, including batch mixing support and staging., • At least 2 years of experience operating a sit-down forklift., • At least 2 years of experience operating a stand-up forklift for the Alsip location., • Proficiency using RF scanners for inventory and material tracking., • Experience loading and unloading trucks using forklifts and other material handling methods., • Hands-on material handling experience, including lifting, sorting, counting, wrapping, and staging products., • Ability to perform repetitive motions and physical tasks associated with lifting and moving materials., • Demonstrated ability to work safely in a production and warehouse environment., • Strong multi-tasking skills to handle multiple material handling tasks throughout the shift., • Experience in chemical, oil, or food manufacturing environments is a plus., • Experience in packaging, picking, packing, and batch mixing support is beneficial., • Comfort working in both production and warehouse/shipping areas., • Ability to adapt to different production lines and workflows across facilities. You will work in a temperature-controlled environment where safety is a top priority and operations are well-structured. The facilities offer a mix of smaller, close-knit teams and larger, fast-paced operations, giving you exposure to different production environments. Work Environment The work takes place in modern, temperature-controlled facilities that include both production floors and warehouse/shipping areas. At the Alsip facility, you will work in a very clean, organized, and recently remodeled environment with a smaller workforce, typically around 10–15 people on first shift and fewer on second shift. This site has fewer lines, kettles, fillers, and blenders and focuses more on customized orders and pallets. The Chicago Heights facility is larger and busier, with a bigger workforce and many more production lines, leading to a more fast-paced and sometimes chaotic environment due to higher volume. It is also temperature controlled, includes multiple break rooms, and has security checkpoints at the entrance. At both locations, safety is a major focus, chemicals used are not harmful, and operations center on manufacturing, bottling, staging, and shipping products. Shifts typically run Monday through Friday, with first shift from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., second shift from 3:30 p.m. to 12:00 a.m., and third shift from 11:30 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. Sunday through Thursday night, with training provided on the designated shift. Forklifts, RF scanners, and standard material handling equipment are used daily, and attire should be appropriate for a production and warehouse setting with all required safety gear. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Alsip, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $17.25 - $18.35/hr.
