Job DescriptionRole Summary: This position provides social support and non-medical detoxification services in a social setting detoxification unit to homeless individuals with alcohol and other drug problems. Provides services in other programs as directed by the Men’s Detox Coordinator or Men’s Assistant Detox Coordinator. While on shift, this position helps to ensure the safety of our participants, is responsible for documentation and crisis management. Role Requirements and Preferences: Required: • Minimum of 6 months of sustained recovery and demonstrated knowledge of recovery principles., • Completion of Peer Support Specialist certification after 1 year (preferred.), • Completion of a High School Diploma or equivalent (preferred.), • Negative pre-employment drug test. Client and Guest Assessment & Monitoring • Assess the health and well-being of clients and guests at all times., • Evaluate clients for current/recent problems, orientation level, discomfort or pain, and signs of withdrawal or intoxication per detox guidelines., • Monitor for medical or psychiatric emergencies and make appropriate referrals., • Assess and manage risks related to violent, self-destructive, or dangerous behaviors., • Assess for presence of illegal drugs and dispose of them per agency guidelines. ???? Intake, Documentation & Records Management • Ensure clients and guests complete and sign all required intake documentation (e.g., Consent for Treatment, Client Rights, HMIS, VI-SPDAT)., • Complete Intake Form, Medical, Substance Use, and Psychosocial assessments with client participation., • Take client photographs for detox records., • Maintain accurate and confidential client and guest records (In database)., • Complete Property and Medication Receipt Logs and related forms for personal belongings and prescriptions., • Oversee check-in procedures including bed assignments, searches, and storage of property (e.g., medications, cell phones, weapons). ???? Orientation & Support • Introduce and orient clients and guests to the detox center or shelter., • Provide guests with pertinent resources and information (e.g., resource packets, meeting sheets)., • Spend time listening to guests, offering support, and connecting them with resources as needed. ???? Logistics & Coordination • Coordinate after-hours referrals from law enforcement, community providers, or first-time guests., • Complete Form located in the storage closet to ensure belongings are stored number noted/and given back at discharge. ???? Communication & Collaboration • Collaborate with on-duty staff and utilize On-Call support for decision-making., • Communicate guest issues across shifts and departments via email, onenote, and incident reports. ✅ General Responsibilities • Ensure a safe environment is maintained at all times., • Adhere to all Healing Transitions policies., • Perform other duties as assigned. Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as rescue equipment, computers, vital equipment, surveillance monitors, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Physical Demands: This role requires regular communication, both speaking and listening. Frequent tasks include sitting, reaching, and handling objects, while occasional activities involve standing, walking, bending, kneeling, or crouching. Employees may need to lift or move items over 30 pounds. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception, as well as the ability to adjust focus. Employees must maintain CPR certification and be physically capable of performing CPR and overdose reversals in emergencies. Language Requirements: English is the primary language of software, documents, participants, and staff of HT, though speaking additional languages is a valuable asset. Must have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret common documents; the ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from participants, or members of the community; and the ability to effectively present information to top management and public groups. Travel Requirements: There may be mandatory meetings and/or trainings that take place on another campus or location. You are required to travel to the appropriate location at these times.
