About the Role We are seeking an experienced 1st Shift Operations Manager to lead inbound receiving and support outbound shipping activities in our busy distribution center. Managing a team of 30 associates, youll balance hands-on execution with planning, ensuring product is received, processed, and stored efficiently while maintaining the highest standards of safety, accuracy, and customer service. This role requires a proactive leader who can motivate teams, manage workflow, and implement solutions that improve productivity. In addition to managing receiving and putaway, youll be responsible for verifying code dates, coordinating with shipping, and handing off to 2nd shift leadership to ensure seamless transitions. Youll also oversee administrative processes such as payroll, reporting, and coordination with both customers and the corporate office. Key Responsibilities • Oversee daily receiving and putaway operations for inbound containers, trailers, and warehouse storage., • Support shipping activities as needed, ensuring timely and accurate order flow., • Verify production code dates and product integrity before storage or shipment., • Manage driver check-ins, pricing/quoting loads, payments, and data entry into warehouse systems., • Supervise, train, and develop a team of 30 employees, including lumpers, receiving staff, and putaway associates., • Monitor labor coverage, assign daily tasks, and adjust staffing to meet inbound/outbound volumes., • Ensure safe operation of material handling equipment and enforce OSHA standards., • Maintain accurate records for payroll, time & attendance, safety, and production reporting., • Handle and report checks and cash, ensuring weekly submissions to the main office., • Lead safety training, disciplinary actions, and performance evaluations., • Partner with Operations leadership to develop schedules, improve processes, and manage costs., • Communicate daily with customers and attend regular customer meetings to strengthen relationships., • Provide clear handoffs and operational updates to 2nd shift leadership to ensure continuity of operations., • Drive continuous improvement initiatives for labor optimization, space utilization, and efficiency. Qualifications • 3+ years of warehouse or logistics leadership experience (inbound receiving experience preferred)., • Experience supervising teams of 20+ in a distribution center environment., • Strong understanding of warehouse workflows, labor planning, and safety compliance., • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and familiarity with WMS systems., • Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to engage both staff and customers., • Reliable and flexible, with availability for weekends as needed., • Strong problem-solving ability and a continuous improvement mindset.
