🧬About Biomemory Biomemory, founded in 2021, boldly stands at the crossroads of Biotechnology and Computing, driven by a passion for sustainability. We are a well-funded start-up building IT rackable equipment for Data Centers, using synthetic DNA as the storage media. While this technology is still at its infancy, these DNA Data Storage Servers target the storage of massive amount of data (Exabytes) with a very long retention life-time (> 100 years) within an attractive capex and opex budget. Headquartered in Paris, Biomemory aims at serving the fast-growing international “cold-storage” market. Join us in rewriting the future of data storage! 🧬 About the Jo b 👩🏻 🔬Your Mission As part of the Biochemistry team, you will be responsible for the production, purification, and characterization of Biomemory enzymes, from small-scale development to large-scale production. You will play a key role in ensuring high yield, purity, reproducibility, and robustness of protein batches, supporting R&D, process optimization, and scale-up activities. This position combines hands-on laboratory work, process thinking, and strong experimental rigor. ⚡Main Responsibilities Protein Expression & Production • Produce recombinant proteins using appropriate host organisms., • Perform molecular cloning activities to support protein production, • Prepare and optimize expression protocols (induction conditions, temperature, time, media)., • Perform small-scale screening, then scale up production when the project is ready to be scaled up (shake flasks, bioreactors, or equivalent)., • Monitor expression yield and solubility. Protein Purification (Core Responsibility🔬) • Design and execute protein purification workflows, including:, • Perform and optimize batch chromatography and purification assays, • Develop and automate multi-step purification processes on FPLC systems (e.g., ÄKTA) by combining various chromatographic techniques (affinity, ion exchange, size exclusion, etc.), • Systematically optimize purification parameters to maximize:, • Product yield, • Purity (>95%), • Protein stability and activity, • Process reproducibility and scalability, • Handle purification at small, medium, and large scale. Protein Characterization & Quality Control • Perform routine protein quality control using standard analytical techniques (SDS-PAGE, protein quantification, activity assays, stability testing), • Analyze results to detect protein degradation, aggregation, or loss of activity, • Apply defined acceptance criteria to validate protein batches before release Process Optimization & Scale-Up • Optimize production and purification processes for:, • Scalability, • Robustness, • Cost-efficiency, • Troubleshoot complex production or purification issues with technical support from the Biochemist Team Lead., • Support the transition from R&D protocols to reliable, repeatable production processes., • Contribute to continuous process improvement working in collaboration with the molecular biology team Documentation, SOPs & Scientific Rigor • Ensure proper documentation, traceability, and data integrity., • Write, update, and follow SOPs related to protein production and purification., • Maintain equipment and ensure proper use of consumables., • Work in compliance with GLP-like practices and internal quality standards. Cross-functional Collaboration 🤝 Work closely with: • Molecular biology teams (expression constructs, variants), • R&D scientists, • Automation or process teams, • Share results, propose improvements, and contribute to technical discussions. 🧩About you Profile • Technician or Engineer in biochemistry, life sciences, biotechnology, or related field., • Experience in protein production and purification in an academic, industrial, or startup environment., • Comfortable with hands-on lab work and routine production activities, as well as troubleshooting. Education • BTS / DUT / Bachelor / Master / Engineering degree in biochemistry, life sciences, biotechnology, or related discipline. Technical Skills • Solid understanding of Protein biochemistry, Buffer formulation and stability, Scale-up constraints, Familiarity with protein QC techniques (SDS-PAGE, activity assays), Comfortable working with large volumes and repetitive production workflows. Soft Skills • Highly organized, reliable, and detail-oriented., • Strong experimental rigor and respect for procedures., • Ability to troubleshoot and propose practical solutions., • Team-oriented with good communication skills., • Autonomous, proactive, and quality-driven. Nice-to-Have Skills • Experience with enzyme production or industrial protein workflows., • Familiarity with bioreactors and upstream processing., • Experience in a startup or industrial environment., • Experience in high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC)., • Exposure to process development or pre-industrial scale-up. Good to know💡 The position is onsite, based at our office located at 5 Impasse Reille, 75014 in Paris. The workspace combines modern classic offices with advanced laboratory rooms, designed to foster collaboration between computer scientists and biologists. This setup supports our mission to tackle the challenges of DNA synthesis and writing, encouraging interdisciplinary teamwork and innovation. The position is subject to French law on fixed-hour contracts ("forfait heures"), with a 39-hour working week, which offers flexibility and ensures clear expectations regarding time commitments. Biomemory provides benefits beyond the French regulations, to support the well-being of its employees and enable them to best contribute to the success of the company. Upon successful first interview, we will be glad to share the details. About the recruitment process To respect everyone's time, we aim to keep the process efficient and reach a decision within a month. However, as we do not want to filter applications by diplomas or seniority, we have to check skills through tests and this requires a certain number of interviews. The selection process consists of four steps, organized as follows: • Introductory interview with our Talent Acquisition Manager (45’), • Interview with your potential future manager, • Case study interview with team members (90’), • “Culture fit” interview onsite (45’)
