Senior Fraud Investigator Salary: £22.21 per hour PAYE or £28.07 per hour Umbrella Location: Hertford, Hertfordshire (hybrid working, monthly office meetings required) Contract: 6 Months initially Job Summary We are seeking an experienced and accredited Counter Fraud Specialist/Investigator with substantial experience in local authority work, particularly tenancy and housing fraud. The successful candidate will be able to: • Take on a live caseload immediately, • Develop and maintain strong relationships across housing service teams, • Use the INCASE365 Case Management System efficiently, • Conduct a full range of investigative activities, including preparing summary reports for housing service decisions and compiling files for civil and criminal proceedings You will be a key member of the Volume Investigation Team, supporting and developing junior officers, and contributing to team leadership. This is a hybrid role with flexible working hours, allowing work from home or office, with occasional travel in Welwyn required. Key Responsibilities • Lead complex investigations in tenancy/housing and corporate fraud, • Act as Lead Case Officer for prosecutions, attending court as necessary, • Identify appropriate sanctions and ensure full implementation, • Conduct interviews in line with PACE Codes of Practice, • Analyse evidence, prepare reports, and present findings for decision-making and court proceedings, • Develop proactive fraud detection and prevention strategies, • Build relationships with partner agencies and statutory bodies, • Deliver fraud awareness training, • Manage a varied and complex caseload within council policies and deadlines, • Contribute to service improvement, innovation, and continuous development Essential Requirements Qualifications • Fully completed professional counter fraud qualifications (ACFS, ACFM, PIP, ACFE), • Member of the Government Counter Fraud Profession Experience & Knowledge • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in fraud, criminal, civil, or disciplinary investigations, • Strong understanding of investigative legislation, financial regulations, and anti-fraud controls, • Skilled in evidence preparation for civil and criminal proceedings, • Experience using INCASE365 Case Management System, • Track record of delivering innovation, service improvement, and change, • Excellent interview and investigative skills (PACE compliant) Additional Information • Hybrid working: work from home or office, with monthly office meetings, • Flexible working hours, • Travel across Welwyn and Hertfordshire as required, • Standard DBS check required
