Randolph Hill are searching for a Domestic Assistant for our exceptional Blenham House Nursing Home in Sighthill, Edinburgh. This post can be either 30 or 35 hours per week with working hours of 0800 – 1430 or 0800 - 1600. The working pattern will be working 5 shifts flexibly over 7 including alternate weekends on and off with the rota issued a number of weeks in advance. Job Purpose • To reflect the high standards of the company by keeping the nursing home clean and safe, • To make efficient use of cleaning materials and equipment, • To uphold residents’ participation strategy, • To treat colleagues with respect and ensure teamwork is good Main Duties and Responsibilities • To follow housekeeping instructions as laid down by the company and as directed by the Manager/Nurse in charge, • To uphold residents’ rights to privacy, dignity and choice, • To operate tools and equipment in a safe, correct manner and display warning signs as appropriate, • To report any damage to equipment, furnishings or fabric of the building as soon as possible to immediate superior, • To become familiar with and use appropriate chemicals in correct strengths as instructed in the manual and to be economical in use, • To keep furniture and carpets clean and free of odours, • To maintain high standards of cleanliness to reflect the image of the company, • To dispose of waste materials and rubbish as instructed, • To report any discrepancies in stock control and inform the Manager immediately, • To report any injuries, disease or dangerous occurrences to the appropriate staff member, • To wear company uniform at all times when on duty, • To wear and use protective clothing and equipment as directed and report any damage to superiors, • To comply with all safe working policies and procedures, • To attend training and staff meetings as requested by the manager, • To become familiar with fire instructions/evacuation policies and procedures, • To become familiar with company policy and procedure regarding domestic duties, sick leave and annual leave, • To read any notices displayed in the work area and to adhere to them at all times, • To undertake any reasonable duties as directed by the manager/nurse in charge to ensure safe, smooth and efficient running of the nursing home Skills and Experience Required • At least 1 years experience working within a fast moving domestic or cleaning role - this could be from any environment

Main responsibilities • To promote the highest standards of care within the nursing home, • To uphold the residents rights to privacy, dignity and choice, • To provide a safe and healthy environment for residents, staff and visitors, • To adhere to SSSC Code of Conduct, • To set a good example at all times in respect of dress, manner, hygiene and behaviour, • To report any injuries, disease or dangerous practice to all relevant personnel, • To maintain correctly written records as required by the company and statutory bodies Knowledge, Skills and Experience • Minimum of 1 years care experience gained within any care of the elderly setting, whether this be nursing home, hospital or community based. We are also keen to hear from student nurses, • From time to time we may consider people without experience if they have good reasons for looking to work within the care sector and depending on skill mix within the home at that time, • For Principal Carer level posts an SVQ 3 is essential along with team leadership experience in a care home environment, • Experience of working with elderly people and knowledge of dementia, delivering clinical support in this area, • Time management, prioritisation of workload for self and greater team, • Ability to problem solve and manage a diverse range of situations effectively within a nursing home setting, • Strong oral and written communication skills, especially report writing, • Being able to deal with a variety of issues and respond appropriately Our Organisation Randolph Hill is one of Scotland’s long standing, reputable providers of care for older people.
