About the role Project Manager - Substations (Power Transmission & Distribution) Location: Norwich Company: Balfour Beatty - Power T&D Team Balfour Beatty's Power Transmission & Distribution team is driving the UK's energy transition, delivering cutting-edge infrastructure to power communities and industries. We are looking for a Project Manager - Substations to take full ownership of our Norwich Substations project, ensuring safe, sustainable, on-time, and on-budget delivery. The Role You will have overall accountability for the successful delivery of the Norwich Substations project - from initial planning and design through to commissioning, handover, and close-out. This is a high-impact leadership role where you'll lead a multi-disciplinary team, manage stakeholders, and ensure the project meets our exacting safety, quality, and sustainability standards. Key Responsibilities β’ Plan, manage, and deliver the project to agreed programme, cost, and quality targets., β’ Lead all phases of the project lifecycle - planning, design, delivery, monitoring, commissioning, and close-out., β’ Provide strong leadership and direction to create a high-performing, collaborative project team environment., β’ Ensure effective stakeholder and client engagement, building positive relationships and ensuring clear communication., β’ Champion a culture of safety, sustainability, and continuous improvement., β’ Monitor progress, identify risks, and implement effective mitigation strategies. What you'll be doing, β’ Hold periodic project reviews and update the Digital Briefcase, β’ Prepare and present both internal/external reports and liaise with stakeholders, β’ Aptitude and ability to understand technical answers / explanations, β’ Management of teams to ensure works are deliverable, β’ Ability to interrogate designs and challenge inputs and deliverables, β’ Lead Accident/Incident Investigations, β’ Review RAMS and accepting subcontractor RAMS, β’ Develop H&S plan and ensure it is treated as a live document, β’ Ensure sufficiency and competency of workforce, β’ Management and empowerment to allow teams to set people to work, β’ Upskilling and mentoring of others, β’ Coordinate and manage all project activities and internal functions, β’ Identify and control resource to deliver works, β’ Produce plans for the team to achieve goals/aspirations, β’ Ensure team adopt productivity and project controls techniques, β’ Establish robust change control process Who we're looking for, β’ Experience of working on a variety of project types, β’ Able to demonstrate a track record of project delivery, β’ In depth understanding and practical experience of standard forms of contracts, β’ Proficient in commercial/project management communications, β’ Experience in implementing safe systems of work, β’ Good knowledge of performance evaluation techniques and key metrics, β’ Record of a solution-based approach to problem solving, β’ Ability to see the business vision and inspire this shared vision amongst the team, β’ Discuss ideas and plans competently and with confidence, β’ Sponsor and promote project diversity and inclusion, β’ Recognise and drive personal development with a learning mindset, β’ Member of a professional management body i.e. APM, β’ Proficient on O365, β’ Holds a current driving licenceThe role holder is likely to have one or more of the following:, β’ Formal qualification in project management or equivalent experience, β’ CSCS and SMSTS or Equivalent Why work for us Day in, day out, our teams deliver some of the UK's most ambitious, exciting and meaningful projects; developing, building and maintaining the vital infrastructure that supports national economies and strengthens communities.
