Job Description Job Title: Superintendent Job Description The Superintendent independently oversees field operations for commercial construction projects with trade contractor work valued up to approximately $30 million. This role manages the day-to-day coordination of trade partners to ensure high-quality work that meets project schedules, contract documents, and safety standards. The Superintendent serves as the primary on-site leader for safety, logistics, and field execution while supporting constructability reviews, change management, and mentoring of less experienced field staff. Responsibilities • Independently supervise an assigned area of trade contractors on commercial construction projects valued up to approximately $30 million., • Coordinate day-to-day field activities to ensure work aligns with project schedules, contract documents, and quality expectations., • Develop, update, and communicate detailed work plans and look-ahead schedules to trade partners and project stakeholders., • Lead and facilitate subcontractor meetings, daily huddles, and pre-task planning sessions to drive safety, productivity, and coordination., • Act as the primary safety representative on site, reinforcing a strong safety culture and ensuring compliance with all safety procedures and standards., • Oversee jobsite logistics, including material deliveries, equipment placement, site access, and sequencing of work., • Maintain accurate and up-to-date project documentation, including field reports, daily logs, and records related to work progress and inspections., • Review and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents to guide field execution and resolve issues., • Monitor and enforce quality control standards, promptly addressing deficiencies and coordinating corrective actions with trade partners., • Support constructability reviews and provide field-based input to improve means and methods, sequencing, and overall project delivery., • Assist with change management by identifying field impacts, supporting pricing efforts, and coordinating implementation of approved changes., • Coordinate inspections with owners, consultants, and authorities having jurisdiction, and ensure timely resolution of any inspection findings., • Collaborate closely with Project Managers, Field Engineers, trade partners, owners, and inspectors to maintain alignment on scope, schedule, and expectations., • Mentor and support less experienced field staff, sharing best practices in safety, quality, coordination, and leadership., • Foster a positive, inclusive, and safety-first work environment that encourages teamwork, communication, and continuous improvement. Essential Skills • 4–8+ years of experience working as a Superintendent on commercial construction projects valued approximately $15 million–$30 million or more., • Strong field supervision experience managing multiple trade partners and subcontractors on active jobsites., • Demonstrated ability to manage jobsite safety, quality, schedule, and logistics in a fast-paced construction environment., • OSHA 30-hour certification., • Proficiency with construction documentation, including drawings, specifications, and related project documents., • Experience using construction scheduling software and tools to plan, track, and communicate work activities., • Strong communication skills with the ability to lead subcontractor meetings, daily huddles, and pre-task planning sessions., • Proven leadership skills with the ability to influence and coordinate diverse teams in the field., • Solid understanding of commercial construction processes, means and methods, and general contractor operations., • Ability to work on ground-up and vertical commercial construction projects. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field (preferred)., • STS-C certification (preferred; employer-sponsored certification available if not currently held)., • Experience delivering projects in higher education, healthcare, institutional, and K–12 sectors (preferred)., • Familiarity with projects for major universities and institutional owners (preferred)., • Experience in commercial construction management for a general contractor., • Strong commitment to safety and inclusive work environments., • Interest in professional development and pursuing employer-sponsored certifications such as STS-C. Work Environment This is an on-site, field-based role on active commercial construction projects in a fast-paced and highly collaborative jobsite environment. The Superintendent works closely with Project Managers, Field Engineers, trade partners, owners, and inspectors to coordinate daily activities and resolve field issues in real time. The work involves frequent presence in active construction areas, interaction with multiple subcontractors, and regular use of construction documentation and scheduling software. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Detroit, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $43.30 - $57.70/hr.
