Job DescriptionJob Title: Sheet Metal Mechanic Job Description A well-established mechanical contractor is seeking experienced Sheet Metal Mechanics to support a large, multi-phase construction project in downtown Charleston. This long-term opportunity offers consistent work over an 8–10 month project with a strong backlog projected for the next two years, providing stability and room for growth for qualified tradespeople. Responsibilities • Lay out, fabricate, assemble, install, and repair sheet metal ductwork and HVAC systems according to project requirements., • Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, construction documents, and mechanical specifications to complete installations accurately., • Install rectangular, spiral, and architectural ductwork in a commercial construction environment., • Measure, cut, and prepare materials with precision using appropriate hand and power tools., • Seal, insulate, and test ductwork to meet project specifications and industry standards., • Work safely and efficiently on ladders, lifts, and scaffolding while following all safety procedures., • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe jobsite in compliance with OSHA standards., • Coordinate daily tasks with foremen and collaborate with other trades to meet project schedules and milestones.Essential Skills, • Minimum 3 years of experience in commercial sheet metal installation., • Strong proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, construction documents, and mechanical drawings., • Hands-on experience with duct installation, including rectangular, spiral, and architectural ductwork., • Working knowledge of HVAC duct systems and related components., • Familiarity with SMACNA standards and their application in commercial ductwork installation., • Ability to use hand and power tools safely and accurately for measuring, cutting, and assembling sheet metal., • Capability to work at heights using ladders, lifts, and scaffolding while adhering to safety guidelines., • Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment and following OSHA safety practices.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • OSHA 10 certification preferred., • Experience working on large, multi-phase commercial construction projects., • Strong communication skills to coordinate effectively with foremen and other trades., • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while contributing to a team environment., • Attention to detail in layout, fabrication, installation, and testing of ductwork.Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based at a large, multi-phase commercial construction site in downtown Charleston, specifically at the MUSC Cellular Therapy Building. Parking is provided for employees. You will work primarily Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with the potential for overtime depending on project needs. The environment is fast-paced and collaborative, involving close coordination with other trades and site leadership. Work takes place both indoors and outdoors in a typical commercial construction setting, requiring the use of ladders, lifts, and scaffolding, and adherence to OSHA safety standards and site safety protocols. Standard construction attire and appropriate personal protective equipment are required on site. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Charleston, SC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $32.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
