Job DescriptionDescription: The Dallas Arboretum is a garden for all that enriches lives through beauty, learning, and connection. JOB SUMMARY Responsible for physically performing general and specialized maintenance and minor to intermediate repairs to the Arboretum water features and exhibits, including fountains, pumps, ponds with fish and aquatic plants, and other related systems. Conduct water testing as needed and apply chemical treatments in accordance with industry standards and departmental policies. Maintain and properly store related equipment and supplies. Work in all weather conditions. Oversee workflow for efficient productivity and timely completion of duties in assigned areas. Physically operate loud equipment including power tools and pressure washers, as well as transporting work materials/equipment. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: • Perform routine maintenance tasks such as cleaning filters, inspecting pumps, backwashing filters, changing UV bulbs, and testing water quality to ensure pools and ponds are operating efficiently., • Maintain interactive features according to Arboretum, city, and state standards, including daily water testing with a chemical test kit, adjusting recommended water chemical balance by adding chemicals as needed, keeping track of daily written log for water testing, checking filters and pumps on a consistent basis, etc., • Feed fish according to industry standards. Maintain pH, chlorine, nitrate, and other necessary levels to sustain aquatic life and apply chemicals as needed., • Diagnose and troubleshoot minor plumbing/mechanical issues to notify supervisors or implement necessary repairs promptly., • Remove debris from pools and ponds. Regularly vacuum and brush features and exhibits., • Report and acknowledge maintenance issues to direct supervisors in a timely manner, as well as, following up on repairs if necessary, • Work with Arboretum employees to maintain cleanliness, safety, and security of pump vaults, mechanical rooms, and storage facilities., • Install and repair pool and pond equipment including pumps, filters, UV systems, and chemical feeders according to manufacturer specifications and safety guidelines., • Update written and or digital records and logs regarding water chemistry levels for applicable features and exhibits., • Secure and maintain all chemicals in appropriate storage facilities on site., • Adhere to safety protocols and regulations while working on pool and pond systems to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment for oneself and others., • Basic knowledge of pool and pond equipment, including pumps, filters, UV systems, and chemical feeders., • Familiarity with plumbing, mechanical and electrical systems related to pool and water feature installations., • Must be able to perform basic maintenance on pools and aquatic systems., • Must have the ability to use basic hand and power tools to maintain pool and aquatic systems., • Effective communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with guests and team members., • Physical stamina and dexterity to perform tasks that may require lifting (30 lbs.), bending, climbing 8-to-16-foot ladders and working in outdoor environments., • Ability to manage multiple tasks through use of effective organizational and time management skills, • Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision, and efficiently complete assigned tasks in a timely manner, according to written maintenance standards, • Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions and responding to urgent facility needs., • Ability to read and understand maintenance user manuals, blueprints, and other written technical documents, • Valid driver's license to drive garden vehicles, • Must have a Certified Pool Operator (CPO) license, or the ability to obtain one within 6 months with company assistance, • Ability to pass all pre-employment requirements including background check, physical evaluations, and drug screening Key Competencies • Manage multiple tasks with attention to detail and accuracy; follow schedules and meet deadlines, • Problem analysis and problem-solving skills; good independent judgment skills., • Work collaboratively and cooperatively with supervisors and staff To help you stay energized, engaged, and inspired, we offer a wide range of benefits including comprehensive healthcare, a 401K, and Paid Time Off (PTO).
